By identifying the driving and restraining forces, Lewin argued that business mangers can assess the situation and then develop an action plan on the forces which can be changed to allow the change to occur.

Driving forces are forces that initiate, encourage and support change and work to assist the business in achieving its goals.

Lewin's Force Field Analysis

Lewin's force field analysis, developed in 1969 by Kurt Lewin, is a concept of identifying and analysing the driving forces (which push and encourage the change to occur) as well as the restraining forces (which hinder the change from occurring)

Restraining forces

Restraining forces are those forces that work against the change, creating resistance which stops that change and preventing the business from achieving their objectives.
