I&O very careful...want to get it back up 5. Record F&E balance: -IV electrolytes given after insulin; hypokalemia is significant cause of death in the treatment of DKA -K+ can be high or normal but K+ is not going into the cell without insulin so K+ build in the blood; when insulin is given it drives K+ into the cell, this can lead to life threatening hypokalemia if not treated 6. Cardiac: (reflects K+ levels and cardiac response) -hypovolemic shock; check skin -tachycardia -assess blood (glucose) and urine tests (ketones) -risk of thrombosis due to severe hyperosmolarity; subq heparin prophylactically Note: there will be a slight temperature elevation in the beginning and the skin will feel hot and dry want the pt more alert/oriented After DKA is corrected: determine the cause; most common is infection

Tetrology of Fallot (TOF) clinical manifestations
Signs and symptoms may include: -A bluish coloration of the skin caused by low blood oxygen levels (cyanosis) -SOB, rapid breathing, especially during feeding or exercise -Poor weight gain -Tiring easily during play or exercise -Irritability -Prolonged crying -Heart murmur -Sometimes, babies who have tetralogy of Fallot will suddenly develop deep blue skin, nails and lips after crying or feeding, or when agitated. metabolic acidosis causes
