Factor pair

A factor is two numbers that multiply each other, these two numbers is called factor pair. 2*6=12 2 and 6 are factor pair

Common factors

A factor that two or more numbers share. factors of 20: 1,2,4,5,10,20 factors of 30: 1,2,3,5,6,10,15,30 common factors of 20 and 30 are: 1,2,5,10

Prime Factorization

A product of prime numbers resulting in a desired number.

Prime Numbers

A whole number greater than 1, whose only two factors are 1 and itself. 2,3,5,7,11...

Composite Numbers

A whole number with factors other than itself and 1. Or a whole number that is not a prime number. 10: 1,2,5

Proper Factors

All of the whole numbers factors of a number not including the number itself. 12: 1,2,3,4,6

Common multiples

Examples: multiples of 20: 20,40,60,80,100,120,140,160,180... multiples of 30: 30,60,90,120,150,180... common multiples of 20 and 30: 60,120,180

Factors

Factors are the whole numbers you multiply together to get another number. 12: 1,2,3,4,6,12

The product of two numbers equal to their LCM

Given two numbers, if they cannot be simplified anymore, their product equals to their least common multiple.

Greatest common factor (GCF)

The biggest common factor

Multiple

The product of that number and another whole number. 10 is a multiple of 5 because 5*2=10

Least common multiple (LCM)

The smallest common multiple. common multiples of 20 and 30: 60,120,180 60 from the above example

divisor

a number by which another number is divided

minuend

a number from which another number is subtracted.

variable

a number that can change or assume different values; a letter used to represent an unknown value

dividend

a number that is divided

subtrahend

a number that is subtracted

decimal point

a symbol in a decimal number used as a reference point for place value.

divisible

able to be divided by a whole number without a remainder.

quotient

answer to a division problem

product

answer to a multiplication problem

sum

answer to an addition problem
