Population Characteristics
K and R
K- carrying capacity R- exponential growth
Three Characteristics
-Geographic Distribution -Density -Growth Rate
Growth Rate
Caused by Immigration and Emigration.
Density
Number of individuals per unit of area.
Logistic Growth
Occurs when a population's growth slows or stops following a period of exponential growth. ex. when people stop immigrating and start emigrating.
Exponential Growth
Occurs when individuals in a population reproduce at a constant rate.
Geographic Distribution
Range (the area inhabited by a population)
Carrying Capacity
The largest number of individuals that a given environment can support.
Immigration
The movement of individuals into an area.
Emigration
The movement of individuals out of an area.
