Process of Bone Remodeling
Step 1: Activation
Step 1: pre osteoclasts are attracted to the remodeling sites pre-osteoclasts join to form multinucleate osteoclasts
Step 2: Resorption
Step 2: osteoclasts dig out a cavity (resorption pit in spongy; tunnel in compact) calcium can be released into the blood osteoclasts disappear
Step 3: Reversal
Step 3: stem cells (pre osteoblasts) appear along the burrow pit, they increase in numbers, change into pre osteoblasts
Step 4: Formation
Step 4: mature into osteoblasts in burrow pit, release osteoid at site forming matrix, which is mixed with calcium and phosphorous
Step 5: Quiescence
Step 5: site remains dormant until next cycle
