Integer

a horizontal bar used in mathematical notation; in fractions, it is the bar that separates the numerator from the denominator; in repeating decimals, it indicates a group of repeating numbers

a number that, when in decimal form, does not terminate or repeat

commutative property

a property of the number which states that the order in which numbers are added or multiplied does not change the value

associative property

a property of the real numbers which states that how numbers are grouped in the sum or product does not change the value

ellipsis

a set of three dots at the end of a number used to indicate that the number will infinitely continue in the same pattern

distributive property

a(b+c)=ab= ac or a(b-c)= ab- ac

increasing or decreasing without end

inequality

sentence showing a relationship between numbers that are not necessarily equal; uses the symbols >,<, greater than or equal to, less than or equal to, not equal to.

additive identity

the number 0; when added to any number, the value of the number does not change

multiplicative identity

the number1; when multiplied by any number, the value of the number does not change

additive inverse

the opposite or negative of a number; the sum of a number and its additive inverse is 0

multiplicative inverse

the reciprocal of the number; the product of a number and its multiplicative inverse is 1
