Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) While a conventional automatic transmission has a set of fixed gear ratios, QX50's CVT selects a ratio for every driving situation, continuously changing the ratio as necessary. The CVT features a low-friction design, lightweight construction, and wide ratio spread. D-step transmission tuning During rapid acceleration, the transmission simulates shifts at higher rpm. And at cruising speed, it can immediately change ratios.

Intelligent AWD Optimizes power distribution for improved traction under various road conditions. Under normal road conditions, the system operates in front-wheel drive for improved fuel efficiency. AWD automatically directs up to 50% of the available power to the rear axle for reduced-slip start-ups. BENEFIT: Safety/Security, Performance, Economy, Durability 4-wheel independent suspension Wheels react independently to changes in the road surface, which can ensure a smoother ride, optimum traction, and improved driver control. Direct Adaptive Steering® The electronic steering system transmits the driver's intentions electronically and directs steering response via electric actuators. It works in parallel with the mechanical steering linkage for fail-safe reliability. The system allows independent control of tire angle and steering inputs, transmitting the driver's steering intentions to the wheels faster than a mechanical system. It also limits unwanted feedback through the steering wheel, such as from hitting ruts or other irregularities in the road surface. Drivers can customize both steering effort and response to their own preferences. Active Trace Control Helps enhance steering response and cornering feel by using the Vehicle Dynamic Control system to selectively apply brake pressure. When cornering, the system helps enhance the transition from braking to accelerating by applying brake pressure to increase the load on the front wheels. In side-to-side turns and other steering maneuvers, it engages the brakes on one side of the vehicle to help turn the vehicle. When Sport mode is engaged, the level of Active Trace Control assistance is reduced.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW) with Haptic Steering Wheel/Available Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) Alerts the driver to vehicle movement out of its travel lane by vibrating the steering wheel for up to 1.5 seconds and illuminating an instrument panel light. LDP helps the driver return the vehicle to its travel lane by using the Direct Adaptive Steering system. Blind Spot Warning (BSW)/ Available Blind Spot Intervention® (BSI®) Detects a vehicle in a blind spot area, an indicator light illuminates; if the driver activates the turn signal, the light flashes and an audible tone sounds. At speeds greater than 37 mph, BSI uses the Direct Adaptive Steering system to gently help move the vehicle back toward the center of the lane. Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) Helps identify a potential frontal collision with a vehicle traveling in front of the vehicle immediately ahead and warns the driver with visual and audible warnings. Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) with Pedestrian Detection Judges a frontal collision is unavoidable, it can provide throttle feedback, automatically engage the brakes, and tighten the front seat belts while a warning light blinks and a chime sounds. BENEFIT: Safety, Comfort/Convenience Rear Automatic Braking (RAB) Helps detect large stationary objects when backing up and, if necessary, may apply the brakes to help avoid a collision. Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) Helps detect other vehicles approaching from either side when backing up. It provides visual and audible warnings if an approaching vehicle is detected. BENEFIT: Safety, Comfort/Convenience High Beam Assist (HBA) Automatically switches between high-beam and low-beam settings depending on traffic and lighting conditions ProPILOT Assist HelpS ease the driver's workload in highway traffic jams and long highway trips. Consists of Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with Full-Speed Range and Hold, and Steering Assist. ICC automatically adjusts the vehicle's speed according to the flow of traffic. The system can bring the vehicle to a stop, and the Hold function will automatically hold the vehicle in place. It uses a forward-facing radar that measures the speed and distance to the vehicle ahead. Full-Speed Range functionality allows Intelligent Cruise Control to operate from 0 to 90 mph. Steering Assist helps keep the vehicle centered in its lane when lane markings are detectable and consistent. It is intended for use on highways during straightaways and gentle (moderate) curves and can provide lane-keeping assistance from 0-90 mph if a vehicle is detected ahead and can provide assistance from 37-90 mph if a vehicle is not detected ahead. It is managed by a forward-facing camera in the rearview mirror housing that can detect lane markings. Head-Up Display Enhances safety and reduces driver distraction by projecting information on the lower portion of the windshield in the driver's line of sight. It can be adjusted using INFINITI InTouch™. FEATURE: Available Around View® Monitor (AVM) LCD screen displays two views. The left view displays the view directly behind the vehicle when the transmission is in Reverse, or in front of the vehicle when the transmission is in any other position at low speeds. The right view displays a composite view of all sides of the vehicle from above, showing the position of the vehicle to help drivers judge how close they are to the curb, parked cars, or other obstacles. This view can be changed to show either a composite or passenger-side view on the screen. Front and Rear Sonar System Gives visual and audible warnings to alert the driver to objects to the front of the vehicle when in Drive, or the rear when in Reverse.
