Assessment in Learning 1 & 2
Formative
-done during instruction It is the assessment where teachers continuously monitor the student's level of attainment of the learning objectives ( Stiggins, 2005)
Assessment
A process of gathering and organizing quantitative and qualitative data into an interpretable form to have basis for judgement or decision making. it is a pre-requisite to evaluation. It provides the information which enables evaluation to take place.
Measurement

Evaluation
A process of systematic interpretation, analysis, appraisal or judgement of the worth of organized dara as a basis for decision making.
Test
An instrument designed to measure any characteristic, quality, ability, knowledge or skill.
Placement

Variance
is the average squared difference between the scores and the mean.
Range
is the difference between the highest score and the lowest score.
Mode
is the most frequently occurring score in the distribution.
Median
is the point that divides the distribution in half, which if half of the scores fail above the median and half of the scores fall below the median.
Construct Validity
measure the extent to which a test measure a hypothetical and observable variable or quality, such as intelligence, math achievement, performance anxiety, etc.
Criterion-related Validity
refers to the extent to which scores from a test relate to theoretically similar measures.
Content validity
refers to the relationship between a test and instructional objectives.
Authentic Assessment
refers to the use of assessment methods that simulate true-to-life situations.
Alternative Assessment
refers to the use of methods other than pen and paper objective test which includes performance test, project, portfolio, journals, and the likes.
Traditional Assessment
refers to the use of pen and paper objective test.
Concurrent Validity
type of validation that measure correlation of the predictor or concurrent measure with criterion measure, which can be used to determine whether a test is useful to use as a predictor or as a substitute measure.
Predictive Validity
type of validation that measure the extent to which person's current test result can be used to estimate accurately.
Diagnostic
used to determined students' recurring or persistent difficulties.
