Chemical Change

A change in matter that produces one or more new substances. Sometimes, a single substance breaks down into tow or more other substances.

Oxidation

The combination of a substance with oxygen, such as when iron rusts.

Conservation

The fact that matter is not created or destroyed in any chemical or physical change is called the law of this.

Endothermic Change

The melting of ice is this, or a change in which energy is absorbed.

Tarnishing

The slow combination of a bright metal with sulfur or another substance, producing a dark coating on the metal.

Thermal Energy

The total energy of the motion of all of the particles in an object is known as this. We usually talk about this in terms of how hot or cold something is, but it is not the same thing as temperature.

Physical Change

This alters the form or appearance of matter, but does not turn any substance in the matter into a different substance.

Exothermic Change

This occurs when energy is released. An example of this is the process of combustion.
