Pepsinogen
Comes from cheif cells of gastric glands. Inactive form of pepsin.
Mucus
Comes from mucous cells. Provides a viscous, alkaline protective layer on the stomaches inner surface.
Hydrochloric acid
Comes from parietal cells of gastric glands. Provides the acid environment needed for production and action of pepsin.
Intrinsic factor
Comes from parietal cells of the gastric glands. AIDS in vitamin B12, absorption in the small intestine.
Pepsin
Comes from pepsinogen in the presence of hydronic acid. A protein splitting enzyme that digests nearly all types of dietary protein into polypeptides.
