Activities

Any endeavor other than routine ADLs in which a resident participates that is intended to enhance her/his sense of well-being and to promote or enhance physical, cognitive, and emotional health.

Departmentalization

Basis for grouping of positions into departments and departments into the organization.

Four Key Aspects of Professionalism

Education, Professional Demeanor, Connection to State or National Organizations, Adherance to a professional code of ethics and legally sound practice.

Ethical

Following the ethical conduct of a profession or group.

Continuum of Care

Levels of care beginning with care and support at home, care provided in the community such as adult day centers and institutional care through assisted lviing and skilled nursing facilities.

Professional Organizations

Non-profit organization that works to improve the image, working conditions and skill levels of people in a particular occupation.

Registration

Regulatory body administers an exam or maintains a list of qualified professionals.

Authority

The power and right to make decisions and commit resources.

Professionalism

The qualities or traits that mark a person working in a particular profession.

Leisure

The use of free time and enjoyment. Independent use of free time.

Accountability

To be responsible for something, to have to answer to an authority.

Licensure

process by which a government agency authorizes individuals to work in a given occupation through a board examination.
