Why is that storyteller telling Arthur the story about Emrys and the Dragons?

Arthur is worried about his dreams and about his future as being king.

Why do the boys call Emrys "demon's son"?

Because he can tell the future with his dreams.

Where does Emrys get his special knowledge about nature? How does he know about the dragons in the stones?

He gets his knowledge about nature from the old man and his books. He knows about the dragons because he has had dreams about them.

Where does the story within the story start? Where does it end?

Starts: Small village Ends: Tower built by Vortigern.

Why has Vortigern fled to the valley where Emrys live? Why does he want to have Emrys killed?

Vortigern has come to the valley because he has declared himself high king over all of Britain but the country has revolted and Vortigern has had to flee. He wants to build his battle tower on the jagged mountain peak. He thinks he must kill Emrys in order for his tower to stand.
