Nursing Informatics
Using Feedback
Rather than creating new knowledge, using feedback is implementing input in the form of opinions about or reactions to something such as shared knowledge
Data
Raw facts, rather than processed information
Computer
Regarding inputting, processing and output date, an electronic information processing machine, a machine that accepts data inputted via a variety of devices, processes data, stores data, outputs data.
Seasoned Nurses
Seasoned or experienced nurses search for ways to enhance their knowledge
Decision Software
Software that is being developed as part of AI to give nurses a prediction of possible consquences to an action
Open Source Software
Software that is free to all. The open source software movement was begun by developers who wished to offer their creations to others
Epistemology
Study of the nature and origin of knowledge, what it means to know
Hidden Units
(All other neurons- not sensory or motor) work in between input and output units
Practice Managers
(Knowledge Managers)- capturing the processing collective expertise and distributing it where it can create the largest beneift
Output Units
(Motor Neurons) Where the outcomes or results of the processing are found
Input Units
(sensory neurons) that receive info to be processed
Feedback
is inout in the form of opinions about or reaction to something. Nurses use feedback to rethink, revise, and apply knowledge to a clinical situation
Knowledge Transperency
means using knowledge without conscious thought making knowledge transparent. The transparency of knowledge suggests that as knowledge grows and expands its use becomes more transparent. A person uses this knowledge during practice without even being consciously aware of which aspect of knowledge is being used at any given moment.
Information Age
Data, information, and knowledge are both accessible and able to be manipulated by more people than ever before in history
Disseminating Knowledge
Disseminating knowledge is the distribution of existing knowledge, rather than the creation of new knowledge.
Information Science
Enables the processing of information the input, processing, output, and feedback of data and information through technology. Sub-discipline of computer science, to understand and rationalize management of technology withing organization. need to have the right information accessible by the right people in the right settings and applied in the right way and at the right time.
Dirty Data
When there are errors in the data, duplicate records, error, as well as other errors such as incomplete or outdated data.
Knowledge Workers
Work with information and generating information and knowledge as a product
Neural Networks
Can be thought of as interconnected simple processing devices or simplified models of the brain and nervous system that consist of a considerable num,ber of elements or units linked together in a pattern of connections
Informations Systems
Computer-Based Information systems "are combinations of hardware, software and telecommunications networks that people build and use to collect, create, and distribute useful data, typically in organizational settings
Computer Science
Focus on computers/hardware/software that make up evolving systems. getting/ manipulating data and information by nurses, who synthesize these into evolving knowledge and wisdom. Helps to cut down amount of information to a more managable size and organize it so you can work with it efficiently through use of datebase/programs technology
Innovator Nurses
Innovators introduce new methods, ideas or products.
Networks
Interconnected simple processing devices or simplified models of the Brain and Nervous System that consist of a number of elements/ units (analogs of neurons) linked together in pattern of connections (analogs of synapses)
Connectionism
Is a component of cognitive science that uses computer modeling through artificial neural networks to try and explain human intellectual abilities, rather than the awareness and understanding of a set of information and ways that information can be made useful to support a specific task or arrive at a decision.
Processed information
Is data with meaning
Wisdom
Is knowledge applied in a practical way, rather than the awareness and understanding of a set of information and ways that information can be made useful to support a specific task or arrive at a decision.
Manifest Information
Is obvious of clearly apparent
Knowledge
Is the awareness and understanding of a set of information and ways that information can be made useful to support a specific task or arrive at a destination
Examples of Input devices
Keyboard, mouse, joysticks, game controllers, pads, web cameras, stylus,
Acquiring Knowledge
Knowledge acquisition is the act of gaining existing knowledge rather than creating new knowledge
Generating Knowledge
Knowledge generation is the creation of new knowledge
Processing Knowledge
Knowledge processing is the act of gathering and collecting existing knowledge rather than creating new knowledge
Latent Information
That is which is not yet realized or apparent
Nursing Science
The application/ usage of information and knowledge in organizations, examine interfacing or interaction between people, organizations, and information systems. To maintain, enhance, or restore health, and acquire , process, generate, and disseminate nursing knowledge to advance nursing profession
Artificial Intelligence
The field of AI deals with the conception, development, and implementation of informatics tools based on intelligent technologies. This field captures the complex process of human thought and intelligence
Cognitive Science
The interdisciplinary field of cognitive science studies the mind, intelligence, and behavior from an information processing perspective.
