-men about to go to battle and Samuel did not arrive to bless them on time- after the men began to slip away, Saul gave the offering himself. -1st possibility: He assumed the role of priest, which was not given to him, Centralizing power. -2nd possibility: Samuel was trying to sabotage Saul and was waiting to call him out on a mistake. Once he did, God backed his prophet.
