Treatment of Hypoxia

Flying a at a lower altitude Using supplemental oxygen

C (Circulation) Stagnant Hypoxia

Occurs when blood is not flowing through the body. Can be caused by heart unable to pump blood effectively, constricted artery or excessive G's.

B (Blood) Hypemic Hypoxia

Occurs when the blood is not able to take up and transport sufficient amount of oxygen to the other cells in the body. Can be caused by anemia, CO binding to the O2 location on the blood cells, blood loss due to trauma.

D (Drugs) Histotoxic Hypoxia

Oxygen is being transported but the cells are unable to use it due to alcohol and other drugs like narcotics and poisons.

Symptoms of Hypoxia

Cyanosis (blue fingernails and lips) Headache Decreased response to stimuli and increased reaction time Impaired judgement Euphoria Visual impairment Drowsiness Lightheaded or dizzy Tingling in fingers and toes Numbness

A (Altitude) Hypoxic hypoxia

Resulf of insufficent oxygen available to the body as a whole. Examples high altitude, blocked airway and drowning.
