National conservatism

Concentrates more on national interests and upholding cultural and ethnic identity than most other conservatives. Also called traditionalist conservatism. Example, the Republican Party in the United States.

Cultural

Defined by shared culture. It is neither hereditary nor nor entirely voluntary. You can choose to be part of a culture. Between ethnic and liberal.

Expansionist

Imperialism that incorporates patriotic elements with the beliefs of expansionism. Example, Nazism and their will to expand. Think of Inglorious Basterds.

Religious

Is a relationship of nationalism to a particular religious belief, dogma, or affiliation.

Pan-nationalism

Is distinguished by being associated with a national territory which does not correspond to existing political boundaries. Nation is outside political borders it belongs to. It is a cluster of closely related ethnic groups. For example, Pan-Turkic. Pan-Turkic is a union of all Turkic peoples from Central Asia, Turkey even some of Russian republics. They share common culture and ancestry with the goal to unite the people, but not directly inside one country. Unity as "one people".

Ethnic

Membership in the nation is hereditary and the job of the state is to protect the national group facilitating cultural and social life. Example, First Nations have a chief who promotes culture in tribes.

Civic

Nationalism from the active participation of its citizens. Derived from the"will of the people". It is the idea of the relationship between people and government. Example, self contract forming representative democracy in the US. We participate through voting.

Liberal

Non-xenophobic form of nationalism compatible with values of freedom, tolerance, equality, and individual rights. For example, our Canadian federal government shows these values.

Third World

Occurs in nations who have been colonized and exploited, rebelling against the government or overthrowing power. The fight against imperialism leading to cultural revitalization. Example, African nationalism after European colonization in the late 1800s.

Nationalism

Personal belief in a nation, the shared sense of belonging of people who identify as the same nation.

Diasporia

Refers to nationalistic feelings towards your home nation. For example, migrants from Syria who live in Canada still feel a connection to their home country and culture. Diaspora refers to a scattered population of the same origin.

Consciousness

Shared sense of identity.

Philosophy

Study of nature.

Anarchism and nationalism

The belief that individuals should rule themselves and the idea of eliminating the large, overseeing government. The idea of extreme freedom. The idea of self government.
