1. TESTEMONY OF FAITH: The testimony of faith is saying with conviction, "La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadur rasoolu Allah." This saying means "There is no true god (deity) but God (Allah), and Muhammad is the Messenger (Prophet) of God." 2. PRAYER: Muslims perform five prayers a day, facing Mecca. Each prayer does not take more than a few minutes to perform. Prayer in Islam is a direct link between the worshipper and God. 3. CHARITY/ZAKAT: All things belong to God, and wealth is therefore held by human beings in trust. The original meaning of the word zakat is both 'purification' and 'growth.' Giving zakat means 'giving a specified percentage on certain properties to certain classes of needy people.' 4. FASTING DURING THE MONTH OF RAMADAN: Every year in the month of Ramadan, all Muslims fast from dawn until sundown, abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations. 5. THE PILGRIMAGE TO MECCA: The annual pilgrimage (Hajj) to Makkah is an obligation once in a lifetime for those who are physically and emotionally able.

The Dome of the Rock is built on top of the Foundation Stone, which is sacred to both Jews and Muslims. According to Jewish tradition, the stone is the "navel of the Earth"—the place where creation began, and the site where Abraham was poised to sacrifice Isaac. For Muslims Prophet Muhammad, founder of Islam, is traditionally believed to have ascended into heaven from the site.

Works decorated with three- or four-clawed dragons were used at the Ming court as gifts from the emperor to his attendants and were also presented to foreign rulers and dignitaries. Since the first legendary rulers, the Emperors of China have taken the dragon as the central image in an elaborate set of images that symbolize the emperor's authority. The great and beneficial power of the dragon could be brought to the people through the good rule of the emperor who was considered to be the intermediary between heaven and earth, a "Son of Heaven." Like the dragon, the good emperor always sought the wisdom to rule wisely, and the combination of wisdom and divine power assured the well-being of the Chinese people.

The era is exquisitely re-created through the story of Genji, the handsome, sensitive, gifted courtier, an excellent lover and a worthy friend. Xia Gui, Section of Twelve Views From a Thatched Hut by Xia Gui. Hand-scroll, ink on silk. One of China's greatest masters of landscape paintings. The album leaf and the hand scroll with a continuous panorama were his predominant forms. His works are typically in ink monochrome, occasionally with a few touches of color. His style is characterized by short, sharp, angular strokes suggesting rapid execution. He simplified his compositions and limited his materials, achieving a more sharply focused and immediate effect. He thus, with his followers, created the new mode of landscape sometimes called the lyric style.
