Preschool legislation

-Education of the handicapped Act Amendment passed in 1986, provided early intervention for children from birth to age two who are developmentally delayed -stated that FAPE must be extended to children with disabilities ages 3-5 years

Teaching Implications

-Schools' middle-class cultures often places students from other cultures at a disadvantage in understanding the schools' culture codes and communication styles -Knowing and understanding your students' cultural backgrounds can help you make your classroom more inviting and can increase their academic achievement

-Teacher encounter increasing cultural diversity -Also will encounter more students whose native language is not english -reflect hispanic and asian heritage

Use differentiated instructional strategies such as flexible grouping, tiered assignments, learning centers, student contracts and mentorships 7. Implement curriculum compacting 8. Transitional

Practicing of placing special education in general education classes for at least part of the school day with additional services program classes being provided to these students as needed

Used to designate services designed for students with disabilities each special education student must have an IEP
