Compatibility Checker

A feature that locates potential compatibility issues between PowerPoint 2013 and earlier versions of PowerPoint.

Portable Document Format (PDF)

A file format that creates an image that preserves the look of your file, but that cannot be easily changed; a popular format for sending documents electronically, because the document will display on most computers.

Gradient Fill

A gradual progression of several colors blending into each other or shades of the same color blending into each other.

Comment

A note that you can attach to a letter or word on a slide or to an entire slide. People use comments to provide feedback on a presentation.

Reviewer

A person who inserts comments into a presentation to provide feedback.

Template

A predefined layout for a group of slides saved as a .potx file.

Office Theme Slide Master

A specific slide master that contains the design, such as the background, that displays on all slide layouts in the presentation.

Synonym

A word having the same meaning as another.

Gradient Stop

Allows you to apply different color combination to selected areas of the background.

Handout Master

Includes the specifications for the design of presentation handouts for an audience.

Notes Master

Includes the specifications for the design of the speaker's notes.

Mark as Final

Makes a presentation file read-only in order to prevent changes to the document. Adds a Marked as Final icon to the status bar.

XML Paper Specification (XPS)

Microsoft's file format that preserves document formatting and enables file sharing. Files can be opened and viewed on any operating system or computer that is equipped with Microsoft XPS Viewer. Files cannot be easily edited.

Slide Master

Part of a template that stores information about the formatting and text that displays on every slide in a presentation. There are various slide master layouts.

Compatibility Mode

Saves a presentation as PowerPoint 97-2003 presentation. It also ensures that no new or enhanced features in PowerPoint 2013 are available while you work with a document, so that people who are using previous versions of PowerPoint will have full editing capabilities.
