british government made an agreement with the local maori people for land in exchange of self rule. new zealand then became a dominion. new zealand also became the first country to give women the right to vote

lord durham

british lord that investigated the problems among colonists in Canada and suggested combining Upper and Lower Canada into the Province of Canada and giving colonists the right to govern themselves.

irish resented the british, even though they were under rule buy them. potato crop failed leading to the potato famine, the great famine swept through ireland killing millions. british blocked food shipments to ireland during the famine, which made irish begin to fight for change. ireland wanted to home rule but was granted only limited self government two decades later.
