-polarization/tribalization=more niche tv channels -CNNvsFOXnews rebub/democrat natl converntion -ppl moving from neutral channels like ACB CBS NBC to biased channels -b4 partisan press-->after ww2 cultural conformity for safety-->back to niching now -PARTISAN PRESS CELEBRATES DIFFERENCES doesnt lay them down

-reading online is more conversational -b/c can find diff points of views easily and can assert our own opinions unlike w/ views

-some traditionalist believe that reading on the net distracts more than strengthens readers b/c it makes them unable to sit down and read a whole book rather than a number of short articles

-some youtube stars build careers about the skillful use of youtube itself -amateurs homegrown stars/self starters

-students scores on traditional standardized tests is going down -some believe internet makes ppl worse at reading and wrecks attention spans

-students were shown a website about fictional animal -almost 90% thought it was real

'digital citizenship'

-teachers teach now to have good digital citizenships in schools -like no posting bad photos to social media or cyberbullying -know how to conduct yourself online

-web lets kids read and write where they may when otherwise would be spending time watching tv -experts say looking anything up on the web requires some kind of engagement with text -will help children when looking for digital age jobs
