lay members are experts in appropriate areas of economics and business, judges may be experts in competition law and policy analysis, faster than court system, more flexibility in decisions
The Competition Act of 1986:
➢ "to maintain and encourage competition in Canada in order to promote the efficiency and adaptability of the Canadian economy."
Objectives of Canadian Competition Policy:
➢ it is intended to reduce the inefficiencies associated with monopoly power and anticompetitive practices
The Bureau of Competition Policy investigates into 4 categories:
1. Mergers & abuse of dominant position 2. Conspiracy (price-fixing main one) 3. Predatory pricing 4. Price discrimination 5. refusal to deal & resale price maintenance 6. misleading advertising and deceptive market practices
