Declarative Sentence
makes a statement and ends in a period
Simple Subject
the noun or pronoun that names who or what a sentence is about
Complete Predicate
the simple predicate with all its objects, complements, and describing words
Complete Subject
the simple subject with all the words that describe it
Simple Predicate
the verb or verb phrase that describes the action or the state of being of the subject
Compound Subject
two or more subjects in a sentence
Direct Object
A noun or pronoun that answers the question whom or what after an action verb
Compound direct object
A verb that has two or more direct objects
Compound subject complement
A verb with two or more subject complements
Complex sentence
Contains one independent clause and one dependent clause
Compound sentence
Contains two or more independent clauses
Adverb clauses
Dependent clauses that act as adverbs
Indirect Object
Tells to whom, for whom, to what, for what an action has done
Compound predicate
Two or more predicates joined by a coordinating conjunction
Interrogative Sentence
asks a question and ends in a question mark
Subject Complement
completes the meaning of a linking verb in a sentence
Exclamatory Sentence
expresses strong emotion and ends in an exclamation mark
Imperative Sentence
gives a command or makes a request and can end in a period or an exclamation mark
