Gta Series 1
Toni Cipriani
"Let's teach these would-be tough guys what it means to be a tough guy!" ―Toni Cipriani Antonio "Toni" Cipriani is a character in the Grand Theft Auto series who appears as the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, who also appears as a main character in Grand Theft Auto III. Michael Madsen voices Toni in III, whilst Danny Mastrogiorgio voices him in LCS. Contents[show] Background Toni Cipriani was born in 1968 to Ma Cipriani and an unnamed father, who was a member of one of the city's mafia families. He lived with his parents in their restaurant and later became involved in Liberty City's criminal underworld, joining the mafia to follow on his father. Events of GTA: LCS (circa 1998) In Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Toni Cipriani assumes the role of the playable character and main protagonist of the game. GTA: Liberty City Stories explores Toni's history and exploits in 1998, three years prior to the events in GTA III. Toni left Liberty City and decided to lay low in a foreign country after killing a rival made man (presumably Forelli or Sindacco family) under orders from Salvatore Leone. He finally returned to the city in 1998, ready to continue his life of organized crime. A grateful Salvatore Leone gives Toni jobs, but because he was out of town for so many years, other members of the Leone Family have had the time to move up in the hierarchy. Salvatore was forced to strip Toni out of his rank and give the position to Vincenzo Cilli during his leave of absence. Toni now finds himself as a low-ranking goon that has to once again gain favor with the Don, in order to secure a leadership position in the family. Toni however works for Salvatore's wife Maria Latore who later on, develops feelings for Toni and has him to do her bidding, and tells him she loves him, but Toni does not feel the same way. However after learning Toni "has no money", she cuts ties with Toni, reminding him that she is Salvatore's girl and not to hit on her. Toni appeared in the game to be much thinner than his appearance in GTA III. Much of his efforts in achieving his goal of reclaiming his place in the Leone hierarchy include battling two other Mafia families, the Forellis and the Sindaccos via several means, allowing him to be "made" halfway through the storyline after killing the Liberty City mayor, Roger C. Hole. After being made, his mother calls off a hit she had put on her son. Later, Toni works for millionaire and mayor candidate, Donald Love and fights the Forelli's in order to help the Leone's own City Hall while protecting Donald. Donald Love is eventually found to be in league with Salvatore and Toni, which makes him unfit for the office in people's eye. After Miles O'Donovan has been elected mayor, Salvatore Leone is arrested on several crime charges, forcing Toni to pose as a lawyer named Lionel to take jobs from the police station where Salvatore is imprisoned. Donald Love, in a stressful phone call, says that he has many propositions for him. Upon arriving at the flophouse, Donald Love says that he has plans that will make both Toni and himself rich again and orders Toni to kill real estate businessman, and Love's former mentor, Avery Carrington. Toni and Donald steal Avery's plans and bomb expert 8-Ball is paid to give them explosives in order to blow up Fort Staunton, causing the Forelli Family to lose a lot of influence. Toni is called by a mysterious woman, Toshiko Kasen, and asked to fight the local Yakuza organization. After Toni kills her husband Kazuki, a remorseful Toshiko commits suicide and a panicked Donald Love asks Toni for some help to take him to Francis International Airport as the Colombian Cartel are attacking to steal Avery's plans. Toni gets Love to the airport safely and Love brings with him the corpses of Avery Carrington and Ned Burner. Salvatore is eventually released from jail, after being escorted to the courthouse by Toni, due to the Sicilian Mafia wanting Salvatore dead. After being released, Toni and Salvatore go to see the mayor, Miles O'Donovan, to get his charges dropped. However, Massimo Torini, a high-ranking member of the Sicilian Mafia, had the mayor kidnapped. Toni and Salvatore chase Torini and rescue the Mayor from Portland Rock, killing Torini in the process. Events of GTA III (circa 2001) By 2001, Toni has become one of the highest-ranking members of the Leone Family, behind only Salvatore Leone. The police had attempted to connect Toni and Salvatore throughout 2001; however, they fail to link them beyond his mother's restaurant. Salvatore's son, Joey, introduces the game's protagonist, Claude, to Toni. Toni hires Claude to attack the Triads (Leone Family enemies), including trying to get protection money from Mr. Wong's Laundromat, destroying some Triad fish vans and the Triad owned fish factory in Callahan Point. Toni also introduces Claude to Salvatore Leone. Toni in 2001. In 2001, Toni still working with his mother and is frequently been seen in his family-run restaurant, where he provides Claude with jobs. The constant insulting from his mother about him not being able to be like his father and failing to meet up to her expectations had forced him to call the local chat radio station, Chatterbox FM, and complain about his mother's constant berating. After Salvatore Leone has been assassinated, it is believed that Toni will take control of the Leone Family simply because Joey Leone, Salvatore's son, hasn't exactly done much to help the family. Personality Toni's behavior in scenes of the game suggest that he is very loyal, but very easy to irritate (of course, this may be in part of that he is surrounded by such strange people, for instance, Maria Latore, Joseph Daniel O'Toole and Donald Love). When he is angry, Toni is capable of practicing extremely violent acts (like using an axe to kill Giovanni Casa and cut his body into small pieces), but he also seems to feel remorseful at times (like when he goes to the Cathedral to make a confession). However, like many other GTA protagonists, he too shows very little hesitation in killing anyone standing in his way and occasionally mocks them. Toni also believes that people should show proper respect to their parents, seen in the mission Hot Wheels when he berates Vincenzo Cilli for receiving oral sex from a prostitute named Cheryl while talking to his mother, and how he desperately tries to please his mother. Like Claude, he will give drivers the finger if a vehicle stands in front of him and tries to mow him down. Toni seems to be very loyal to his bosses (for example, he saves Salvatore from being crushed in a car which the Sindaccos used to kidnap Salvatore). However, after completing the story-line mission "The Sicilian Gambit", during the ending cutscene, Toni seems to be a little troubled and hesitant for not being paid by Salvatore the couple of million dollars he promised. In GTA: Liberty City Stories, Toni is significantly thinner than his depiction in GTA III; this is commented or criticized by his mother, Maria and Salvatore Leone, with his mother and Salvatore in particular commenting about him not being fed well. By GTA III, Toni is fatter and has aged considerably in the three years that have passed. Appearance In GTA: Liberty City Stories, circa 1998, Toni has a burly build and light skin. He has brown eyes and short, black hair. He has a permanent 5 O'Clock shadow, and a small amount of chest hair, which can be seen when using certain outfits. Tony appears to be quite tall, and he is considerably taller than Salvatore and JD O'Toole. As Liberty City Stories allows the player to change clothes, Toni can wear up to 16 different outfits, ranging from casuals to mascot costumes to luxury suits. Toni's regular outfit is a dark brown jacket, tan pants, and black shoes. In GTA III, circa 2001, Toni's appearance has changed drastically; he has lighter brown hair with grey stripes and a much fatter and heavier build. Toni also wears a purple coat, and tan dress pants. Add a photo to this gallery Trivia * Toni is the only protagonist in the series to have an artwork in a game he's not the protagonist (with GTA III being the game). * Toni Cipriani's name, character, and appearance is influenced from characters portrayed by actor Paul Sorvino. The GTA III rendition of Toni Cipriani is heavily based on Sorvino's character Paulie Cicero from the film Goodfellas, a huge inspiration on both games Cipriani appears in. Furthermore, Toni Cipriani's name comes directly from a character Sorvino played named Tony "Guy" Cipriani from the 1997 film Money Talks. * "Rip Toni" is to the left. * Toni Cipriani is likely a homage to Tony Soprano, the main character from The Sopranos. Aside from their names, both characters also share ongoing problems with their mothers, who also ordered hits on them. They also both would later go on to have weight problems, and were feuding with caporegimes in their respective crime families (Corrado 'Junior' Soprano and Vincenzo Cilli respectively). * Toni, along with Salvatore Leone, Luigi Goterelli, Maria Latore, 8-Ball, and Joey Leone (in that order) appears on posters for the film Badfellas in GTA III. This is a reference to the film Goodfellas, which Frank Vincent (Salvatore Leone's voice actor) and Ray Liotta (Tommy Vercetti's voice actor) starred in. The posters can be found at Luigi's Sex Club 7 in the Red Light District of Portland Island, Liberty City. * An Easter egg in Grand Theft Auto IV suggests that Toni, along with the other 3D Universe protagonists, are dead. However, this is not been considered canon with the 3D Universe. * Toni is the first protagonist to give missions to another protagonist (namely, Claude). He is followed by Trevor Philips, who gives missions to the GTA Online Protagonist in Grand Theft Auto Online. * Toni may have been a loan shark in the past, as he reminds JD O'Toole of the money he owes in Snuff and Giovanni Casa tells Toni that he will pay him "the money I owe" in Dead Meat. * Toni appears in a total of 77 storyline missions, the third-highest number of any protagonist (behind Carl Johnson and Niko Bellic, who appear in 104 and 98 missions respectively). * Toni said his own name as "Toni Ki-priani" in the mission The Pick-Up in GTA III instead of the usual "Toni Si-priani". This is a simple mistake by the voice actor, Michael Madsen. * One of Toni's random lines when targeting someone is "It's my constitutional right, you moron!", which is similar to CJ's line "It's my constitutional right, bitch!" in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. * His original name was Tony Facile. * He is the only Protagonist who is not enemies with the main antagonist as Massimo Torini is instead enemies with Salvatore Leone who serves as Toni's Deuteragonist.
Tommy Vercetti
"My old man used to work on these. I used to spend the evenings with him cleaning the rollers. I was gonna follow him in his trade but... I lived a different life." ―Tommy Vercetti Thomas "Tommy" Vercetti is a character in the Grand Theft Auto series who appears as the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (set in 1986) and mentioned in The Introduction, a prequel of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (set in 1992), and in the game itself during the mission The Meat Business. Tommy is a former member of the Forelli Family, and the leader of the Vercetti Gang. Biography Early Life Thomas Vercetti was born in Liberty City in 1951. His father worked in a printing shop and as a child Tommy used to clean the rollers with him. Tommy had planned to follow in his father's footsteps, but, in his own words, "led a different life". Dialogue spoken by Tommy while fleeing police indicates that he had a bad relationship with his mother. Early 1970s Some time prior to 1971, Tommy joined the Forelli Family. He continued to work with the Forelli Family, making his way up the ranks and presumably becoming a made man. In 1971, Sonny Forelli, growing apprehensive of Tommy's increasing power, attempted to set up an ambush for him, under the guise of a hit in Harwood. However, Tommy not only survived, but killed all eleven men that were sent to kill him. He was arrested and convicted of eleven counts of murder, but since he kept quiet and turned no evidence on the Forelli Family, they used judicial connections to spare him from the death penalty or life imprisonment. Tommy remained in prison for fifteen years, refusing to divulge any Forelli Family secrets to the LCPD. Events of Grand Theft Auto Vice City - 1986 In 1986, Tommy was released from prison after Sonny "pulled some strings". Fearing that Tommy is "too well known" in Liberty City, and also wanting to expand into the drugs trade in the south, Sonny sends Tommy to Vice City. Tommy flies to Vice City along with Harry and Lee, meeting Ken Rosenberg at the airport, before immediately driving to a drug deal at the docks. The drug deal turns into an ambush, and Harry, Lee, and one of the drug dealers are killed. Only Tommy, Ken, and the other dealer escape the attack. Tommy informs Sonny of the ambush and is reminded that Sonny is "not a man to be screwed with; Sonny makes it clear he wants his money and his drugs back. Tommy initially works for Ken, starting riots and intimidating jurors. While working for Ken, Tommy also meets Lance Vance, the other dealer, who seeks revenge for his brother who was killed during the initial drug deal. Tommy also works for Juan Cortez, an intermediary for the drug deal, who begins to look into the ambush for Tommy. Meanwhile, Cortez has Tommy steal missile technology chips and kill Gonzalez, who had talked about the deal. Cortez, believing that Ricardo Diaz was responsible for the ambush, asks Tommy to act as protection for Diaz in a deal with the Cubans. The Haitians, enemies of the Cubans, ambush the deal, but are killed by Tommy and Lance. Diaz, seeing potential in Tommy and Lance, hires them to kill gang members who were stealing his money and steal the fastest boat in the city in order to purchase drugs from a dealer on a boat. Lance eventually attempts to kill Diaz for the death of his brother, but is captured by Diaz's men, though he is later freed by Tommy. The two subsequently go on to take revenge, killing Diaz in his own mansion. The death of Ricardo Diaz brings change to Vice City, allowing Tommy and Lance to step in and continue the crime ring established by Diaz. Tommy, however, begins to look beyond the protection rackets established by Diaz and purchases a number of businesses around the city, most prominently the Malibu Club, the Cherry Popper Ice Cream Factory (a front for a drug running business), InterGlobal Films and the Print Works. After purchasing each business, Tommy helps establish their influence in the city. During this time, Tommy also begins to work for a number of smaller time criminals in the city, including the Cuban leader Umberto Robina and the Haitian leader Auntie Poulet (due to her drugging him), helping both sides attack the other. He also works for Avery Carrington's real estate business, Phil Cassidy's gun running business, Mr. Black's hitman business, Mitch Baker's biker gang, and Kent Paul's management of Love Fist. Tommy also went on to help Juan Cortez escape the city when the GIGN assault his yacht for the missile technology. Sonny Forelli, growing restless and impatient, sends some of his men to collect some of his money from Tommy's businesses. Tommy kills the collectors, although not in time to save Earnest Kelly, the owner of the Print Works, from being injured. Tommy decides to give Sonny fake money printed at the Print Works. Tommy meets Sonny in person at his estate to give him the counterfeit cash, but Sonny informs him that Lance has sided with him, betraying Tommy. A gun battle ensues, with Tommy killing both Lance and Sonny, who also confirms Tommy's suspicion that he was set up in Harwood. Following the deaths of Lance and Sonny, Tommy and Ken taken over, becoming the most powerful men in Vice City. Life After 1986 Tommy Vercetti continued to run the criminal underworld of Vice City after 1986; during that time, Tommy's relationship with Ken became increasingly strained due to Ken's cocaine addiction. Tommy eventually got Ken into rehab at the Fort Carson Medical Center in Fort Carson, San Andreas. Although Ken completed rehab and got clean of his addiction, Tommy refused to speak to him following this and essentially cut all ties. Tommy is mentioned by Ken in the mission The Meat Business in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, leading Carl Johnson to question, "Who the **** is Tommy?" Rosenberg also calls Vercetti at the introduction video of the aforementioned game, Tommy's secretary answers and tells Ken that Tommy is not taking calls, this is the moment where Rosenberg discovers that Vercetti was ignoring him. Tommy is also mentioned in Kent Paul's website under the list of social problems, saying, "(see, Tom, I didn't mention your name, nowhere. Maybe you won't get us killed now, okay?)" This could mean that Tommy is still alive and in power during the early 2000s. Personality Tommy Vercetti is depicted as both intelligent and temperamental. He is easily angered and quick to resort to violence. He does not hesitate to kill, though many of his victims are trying to kill Tommy, or have done something that guaranteed their deaths. Tommy often shows his sensitive side with characters like Mercedes Cortez and Earnest Kelly, viewing Kelly as a father figure due to his own father working in print works. Tommy prefers to perform his own work rather than delegate tasks to others. Even after he has his own gang and other subordinates working for him, he usually puts his plans in motion personally. He also personally gets involved if things aren't going as well as he'd like - for example, in the opening cutscene of Bar Brawl he is irritated by Lance's lazy attitude towards the bar refusing to pay protection money and immediately goes out to settle things himself. Despite his hot temper, Tommy tends to be loyal and trusting, especially toward those whom he feels helped him to achieve his goals. He went back to work for Sonny Forelli after being released from prison even though he strongly suspected that Sonny set him up. This is especially true of Lance Vance. Although Lance's competence was declining and his temperament was becoming negative, Tommy still viewed and attempted to treat Lance as an equal partner, even letting him in on the counterfeiting setup at the Vice City Print Works. Tommy was shocked at Lance's betrayal, leading Earnest Kelly to quip, "Tommy, for a raging lunatic, you sure are naïve". Appearance Tommy, an Italian-American, is portrayed with a tall, swarthy, handsome appearance, combed dark brown, almost black hair, brown eyes, and a constant five o'clock shadow. He first appears wearing a light blue-green Hawaiian shirt with dark blue palm trees printed on it, a gold pearl necklace around his neck, a gold watch around his left wrist, and a pair of blue jeans and white sneakers. He has other outfits also, and his appearance can be completely changed through the Player Skin Setup, a new feature of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, allowing players to create custom textures for the default player model and apply them in the game. Inspiration Tommy Vercetti shows many characteristics in common with Tony Montana, a drug lord from the film Scarface. The two both end up in exile, both arrive in the city wearing Hawaiian shirts, both rise to power in Miami using great amounts of violence, both build an empire from a large estate and mansion, both have short tempers and are prone to violence, both work as contract killers, and both killed their collaborators and took their ex-bosses' empires. The interior of the Vercetti Estate is even modeled after Montana's mansion, save for the lack of an indoor pool. There are, however, key differences, most notably that Tommy did not become addicted to his own narcotics and that Tommy survived the shootout in his mansion, as opposed to Montana who was killed, and Tony Montana is of Cuban descent, whereas Tommy Vercetti is of Italian descent. Tommy Vercetti also bears some resemblance to 'Mr. Blonde' from the film Reservoir Dogs, played by Michael Madsen who also voiced Toni Cipriani in Grand Theft Auto III, protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. The film sees 'Mr. Blonde' released from prison after loyally doing time for his crime family, as Tommy did after the "Harwood Incident". Tommy later performs contract killings for a 'Mr. Black', whilst he is referred to as 'Mr. Teal' (a reference to the then deceased Leo Teal). He also has a small resemblance to his own voice actor Ray Liotta. Mission Appearances GTA Vice City * As the protagonist, he appears in all missions. * Tommy has a few unique traits as compared to other GTA protagonists. He was the first one to speak (although that honor technically goes to Toni Cipriani in GTA III, he was not actually recognized as a protagonist until GTA Liberty City Stories, which was released after GTA VC). He was also the first 3D Universe protagonist to be given a name - Claude of GTA III wasn't named until GTA SA, and Toni Cipriani didn't officially become a protagonist until GTA LCS. He was also the only vocal GTA protagonist to never say the word "****". * In GTA IV, there is graffiti found around the map with Tommy's name, along with the other 3D Universe protagonists. It states that they are all dead. Rockstar Games later told that it was a "little joke for the fans of the series". * Tommy's shirt can be seen in the wardrobe at The Compound safehouse in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, but Vic cannot wear it. * The video game DRIV3R featured Hawaiian shirt-wearing characters known as "Timmy Vermicelli" hidden throughout each of its 3 main maps, who could be killed to unlock bonuses, a parody of both Tommy and the hidden package system of GTA games. Additionally, the Timmy Vermicelli characters wore inflatable armbands, making fun of the fact Tommy Vercetti is unable to swim and will die upon entering the water. * Tommy and Trevor Philips are the only protagonists to be present for the death of another protagonist in a canonical situation (Tommy witnessed Victor Vance's murder during a deal, and Trevor beat Johnny Klebitz to death). * In The Introduction, Ken Rosenberg calls Tommy Vercetti, but Tommy doesn't speak because Ray Liotta had a dispute with Rockstar Games about how much "effort" he put in Vice City and Tommy's voice wasn't recorded. * Tommy was meant to return in GTA San Andreas. However, these plans were subsequently scrapped because of this dispute. * Tommy is able to outrun a moving car, even though this is impossible in real life.
Claude
"That ****ing snake without a tongue gave me this shithole instead of a pink slip? I must be the biggest ****ing idiot in the whole ****ing world!" - Carl Johnson Claude is a character in the Grand Theft Auto series who appears as the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto III, and a minor character in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Claude never speaks in any of his appearances, and therefore there is no voice actor for him and he wasn't mentioned at all in the end credits of GTA III. History Background Nothing is known about Claude's life before 1992, other than he had emerged as a top contender in an illegal racing ring and owned an abandoned garage in Doherty, San Fierro. Rockstar however states that Claude is: "Definitely a drifter, probably from the west coast, new to Liberty City " (and his) "surname may or may not be Speed". Events of GTA San Andreas Racing with Carl Johnson Claude, in 1992, became involved with Catalina, who had recently split up with Carl Johnson, before racing CJ in a losing effort. Following the loss, he hands over his garage to Johnson, before leaving San Andreas with Catalina. The two head to Liberty City where they embark on a nine year crime spree ending with Catalina's betrayal. Events of GTA III Bank Heist and Jailbreak At the start of the game, Claude and Catalina robbed a bank in Liberty City. Catalina, however, turned on her boyfriend, shooting him and leaving him for dead, justifying her decision with "I'm an ambitious girl, and you're just small time". Claude is arrested by the Liberty City Police Department. He is convicted of all charges and is sentenced to ten years in prison. While being transferred to a prison in Portland View, Claude escapes from a police convoy after the Colombian Cartel attack the convoy to free the Oriental Gentleman. Claude and 8-Ball escape to a safehouse in the Red Light District, before moving on to Luigi's Sex Club 7. Luigi Goterelli, the owner, gives Claude his first job in the city, to drive Misty from the hospital back to the club. The Leone Family Claude, successful in his errand, continues to be employed by Goterelli, who also has him kill a drug dealer and two pimps, before having him drive Misty to Joey Leone's Garage. Claude then begins to work for Joey, killing both Mike Forelli and Lee Chong, before chauffering Toni Cipriani, later working for him against the Triads, principally killing three Triads warlords. Claude, impressing the Leone Family hierarchy, is introduced to the Don, Salvatore Leone. Salvatore, 'seeing nothing but good things' for Claude, has him looking after his 'girl' Maria for the evening, kill Curly Bob (who was selling secrets to the Colombian Cartel, now co-led by Catalina) and later destroy a freighter used as a factory for the drug SPANK. During this time, Claude also works for El Burro, the leader of the Diablos, helping him on various tasks, and Marty Chonks in his attempts to get out of his various problems. The Yakuza After destroying the Cartel freighter, a paranoid Salvatore attempts to kill Claude by having him enter a bomb-laden car. Salvatore's wife Maria, however, pages Claude and directs him to a small pier where the two meet Asuka Kasen, co-leader of the Yakuza, and flee to Staunton Island after Maria had told her husband that she and Claude were an "item". Asuka, unconvinced of Claude's loyalty, has him kill Salvatore Leone to prove himself, before having him kill a number of other people causing her problems. She later introduces him to her brother Kenji and Ray Machowski, a corrupt police man working for the Yakuza. Claude helps Kenji with his problems, including settling debts and freeing a man from prison, and helps Machowski in his attempts to remain unnoticed, eventually helping him flee the city by the airport. Later Jobs and The Exchange Claude continues to look for work and finds employment with King Courtney, who has him attack the Diablos before attempting to kill him on orders from Catalina, and Donald Love, who has him kill Kenji Kasen disguised as a Colombian Cartel gangster in a Cartel Cruiser to provoke a war. Asuka, unaware of Claude's role in her brother's death, launches an assault on a Cartel-controlled building site and begins to torture Miguel, co-leader of the Cartel, into giving away Cartel secrets. Armed with the information, Asuka sends Claude on various missions to hurt Cartel operations, including stopping the selling of and stealing a shipment of SPANK. Claude briefly finds employment with D-Ice, leader of the Red Jacks sub-sect of the Southside Hoods, and attacks the rival Purple Nines into defeat. Claude returns to the building site and finds that Asuka and Miguel are both dead, whilst a ransom note from Catalina, wanting $500,000 for Maria, is left for him. Claude goes to the Cartel mansion, escapes an ambush, destroys a helicopter piloted by Catalina, thus killing her, and rescues Maria. Maria's fate is left unknown, as whilst Maria is talking, a gunshot is heard that stops the talking; what exactly this gunshot was is unknown. Theories include that Claude killing her or simply shooting in the air to stop her talking or even a sound effect played by the game to signify its end. Personality Claude is a calm and serious man who appears almost emotionless regardless of the situation. Provided he is paid for his services, he will take orders from his bosses without reluctance or complaint, usually giving a nod to show that he understands, and doesn't respond even when he is scolded or shouted at by his bosses for doing something wrong. He also prostrates to his bosses if required, in Kenji Kasen's case. Claude shows no true loyalty to anyone, as long as he is paid or it leads him closer to his goal of revenge, he will work for anyone, and kill anyone, as evidenced by him killing Kenji Kasen. He even fights on multiple sides of gang wars, working for the Mafia, the Diablos, the Yakuza, and the Yardies, completely without hesitation. For the vast majority of the game, Claude is taciturn and doesn't speak. He will only make a slight grunt when he is hurt, or an "Oh!" whenever he drowns, gets shot, run over, or when he falls down. Unlike other protagonists, he doesn't taunt or shout at his enemies, but may give a driver in a passing vehicle the finger while crossing roads. Claude remains true to his mission of finding and taking revenge on Catalina for leaving him for dead, even showing the slightest bit of pity for Maria when he allows her to live after freeing her, only to possibly kill her himself. It's also clear that Claude is only out for himself and will use people for his own ends or benefits until he no longer sees a reason to use them anymore; which more often than not ends with Claude killing them. Appearance Claude is a tall Caucasian male in his late twenties to early thirties, with brown hair and a faint 5 O'clock shadow. He always wears a black bomber jacket with bronze zippers with a black T-shirt underneath, green cargo pants and blue sneakers. He has a muscular build, during Give Me Liberty, Claude wears a baggy orange prison jumpsuit with rolled-up sleeves. In the PC version of GTA III, there is an alternate outfit consisting of a brown leather jacket, blue jeans, sneakers and a brown moustache. Aside from that, Claude is the only 3D-era protagonist (except for Mike) that wears the same clothes throughout the entire game. Claude's appearance in San Andreas is very similar, though he has a more youthful and detailed face. His clothes consist of a re-skinned black biker jacket with a black T-shirt, olive cargo pants and white and black sneakers. Mission Appearances GTA III * As the protagonist, he appears in all missions. GTA San Andreas * Wu Zi Mu (cameo) * Farewell, My Love... Add a photo to this gallery Trivia * The name "Claude" does not appear in Grand Theft Auto III. Other characters call him by his nicknames (similarly to Claude Speed, the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto 2) and the menu lines refer to him as 'player'. However, in the ending cutscenes of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, when Catalina is phone calling the protagonist CJ, she shouts "Oh, Claude!" with background groans, like Claude and Catalina were having sex. 'Claude' can also be found in GTA III game files, suggesting it could have been planned to be in the main game. Lately, Rockstar used the name in many promotional releases related to previous games, such as the game's 10 years anniversary, which definitely confirmed his name was indeed Claude. "Rip Claude" is to the left. * In Grand Theft Auto IV, his and other 3D Universe protagonists names are written on a wall of graffiti with "rest in peace" messages, suggesting they could all have died after the events in the 3D universe (or this may be also a reference to the end of the 3D era). According to Rockstar, this only served as a "little joke to [their] fans". * Claude, and the GTA Online protagonist are two of the few characters in the GTA series who do not speak (if you don't count any of the optional protagonists from the 2D Universe). This was a choice Rockstar Games made at the start of the development process, as they stated, "We had so many other problems to solve and this did not seem like a major issue." Having a silent protagonist would also help players identify with the character. However, there were rumors that Claude actually spoke in the beta GTA III trailer, saying "Get out of the car!"; Rockstar replied to the rumors that the brief voiceover was fake and was pulled from .RAW files from GTA 2. * Also, the original line was "Get out of the car, man!", but in the trailer, the word "man" was omitted. * In the opening cutscene of the game, at the first mission, "Give Me Liberty", (notably when he rounds the corner and finds Catalina pointing two pistols at him), you can notice Claude's face is notably different in the convoy and onwards (the difference can actually be seen in the gallery of this article). This is because he uses a different model and slightly different texture, likely a beta model. * Also in the game opening, when Catalina shoots Claude, the bullet hits his neck, suggesting a cause for his mutism. However, he also does not speak in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, set years before, so it may be just coincidence. * In San Andreas, Claude is wearing substitutes for the bomber jacket, cargo pants and sneakers. He is wearing a biker jacket that is available from Victim, black hi-tops from ProLaps, and re-colored olive pants from Binco. * To celebrate GTA III 's 10th anniversary on October 22nd 2011, Rockstar Games released an official Claude action figure in association with Sideshow Collectibles. The figure comes complete with both of Claude's outfits (his standard outfit and prison uniform), along with several weapons to pose him with. Only 1,600 were produced, and as of late 2012, they have sold out. * The Claude action figure looks different from his game look. * Going by the release date of the games, he is the first protagonist of the 3D Universe. Although chronologically, he is the last 3D Universe protagonist. * He is one of the six protagonist in series that shares name with another protagonist. In this instance, it's Claude Speed from Grand Theft Auto 2. Others are Mike and Michael De Santa from Grand Theft Auto: Advance and Grand Theft Auto V, and Johnny Hawtorn & Johnny Klebitz from GTA London and The Lost and Damned, respectively. References
Carl "CJ" Johnson
"What's the hood done for me?! Always dragging me down! Ever since I got out the hood, shit been cracking!" ―Carl Johnson Carl "CJ" Johnson is the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Carl is the second-in-command of the Los Santos-based street gang, the Grove Street Families, which is led by his brother, Sean "Sweet" Johnson. Carl "CJ" Johnson was born in 1968 in Los Santos, to Beverly Johnson. He has a father, but as seen in the intro movie, he said he didn't know him. Beverly had four children: Sean, Carl, Kendl, and Brian. Sweet states that Carl was born in the Johnson House, the family's childhood and current home. Old Reece, a family friend, and Ganton's local Barber Old Reece, recalls memories of Carl's father, although Carl tells Joey Leone that he never knew his father, and that Sweet was the "man" of the house but made his life miserable. The Johnson siblings, along with Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris and Lance "Ryder" Wilson, grew up on the same cul-de-sac and were childhood friends. CJ recalls Ryder dealing drugs since he was ten. Sweet became the leader of the Grove Street Families and introduced him, CJ, and possibly Brian into the gang life. Around 1985, the Grove Street Families were at the height of their power when they first became pressured by Frank Tenpenny, a corrupt police officer of C.R.A.S.H. It's likely that Officer Eddie Pulaski was also serving with Tenpenny at this time. The Grove Street Families went into a decline at some point between 1987 and 1992. Sweet laments that Carl "let Brian die", causing Carl to leave for Liberty City in 1987. He was no longer considered a member of Grove Street, and would later have to earn his way back into the gang. Big Smoke also implies that Carl was physically larger during that time, stating that "the east coast got you all thinned out, holmes". Adult life In Liberty City In 1987, Carl came to Liberty City and started a new life. He had the opportunity of working with Don Salvatore Leone's son, Joey Leone, in the car theft business, as well as other small-time crimes. In 1992, five years after his departure from Los Santos, Sweet calls CJ to tell him that their mother was killed in a drive-by shooting (calling only minutes after it happened). CJ returns to Los Santos for the funeral, with the partial consideration of staying there long-term. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Main article: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas As soon as Carl arrives in Los Santos 5 years later at the age of 24, he is confronted by C.R.A.S.H. members Frank Tenpenny, Eddie Pulaski and Jimmy Hernandez, who explain that Carl will do work for them, or they will frame him for killing their fellow officer Ralph Pendelbury. After meeting with Big Smoke at the Johnson house, Carl finally meets with his siblings and friends. Carl quickly learns that the Grove Street Families lost much of their power over the last five years - a result of the growing crack cocaine trend and, though Sweet doesn't admit it, Sweet not having as much personal strength as a leader without CJ home. CJ and Sweet work furiously to successfully bring the gang back to power, with CJ regaining his brother's respect in the process. This included reuniting with the Seville and Temple families, as well as the Aztecas leader Cesar Vialpando (who, although a rival of Sweet's at the time, began a loving relationship with Kendl), and wiping out the Ballas, the sworn enemy of the Grove Street Families. Carl also helped OG Loc, a laughable "poser" who aspired to be a rapper (consequently ruining rap superstar Madd Dogg's career in the process). The gang is at the second height of its power, and is planning on taking out the rest of the Ballas in an ambush, until Cesar reveals to Carl that Ryder and Big Smoke have betrayed the gang to C.R.A.S.H and the Ballas. Carl rushes to the gunfight, suspecting that Sweet and the gang are walking into a trap, and manages to hold off the Ballas to rescue a heavily-wounded Sweet, until both of them are arrested by C.R.A.S.H. Grove Street Families and the Varrios Los Aztecas practically disappear, and Big Smoke becomes head of a drug ring and takes over Los Santos. OG Loc also becomes a rich and famous rapper, with Big Smoke acting as his manager as a means to launder his money. C.R.A.S.H. abandons Carl in rural Whetstone to eliminate a witness against them. It is slowly revealed that they are being tried in court over their corruption, in a case that is quickly building media attention. Cesar connects CJ to his (mentally unstable) cousin, Catalina, and the two form a relationship built on the robberies they commit together. Tenpenny introduces CJ to The Truth, an aging hippie who is supplying Tenpenny with tons of weed to frame a D.A who is an enemy of Tenpenny's. Tenpenny demands that CJ pay for the shipment, which forces him to return to work with Catalina, who now has an obsessive crush on him. Carl also meets the San Fierro Triads leader Wu Zi Mu during a street race. Catalina finds him at the race and expresses her feeling of neglect and anger, feeling that he was only interested in her as a partner in crime, also proclaiming that she has a new boyfriend, Claude. CJ defeats Claude and Catalina in a street race, gaining the deed to Claude's run-down San Fierro garage. CJ leaves for San Fierro with the Truth and Tenpenny's marijuana (despite Tenpenny betraying The Truth). They meet Cesar and Kendl at the garage in Doherty, San Fierro. CJ is angry about the bad state of the garage and believes that it is completely useless. Kendl explains to CJ that the property is a great opportunity, and through the Truth, he hires Dwaine, Jethro and Zero to work in the garage. Carl meets with Woozie in San Fierro and the two quickly become strong allies, collaborating to take down each of their enemies enemies - Carl targeting the Loco Syndicate (Big Smoke's suppliers) and Woozie's rivals, the Da Nang Boys. Carl infiltrates and eventually kills all the chief members - Jizzy B, T-Bone Mendez, and even Ryder from the Grove Street Families. The garage (now a car theft ring), as well as renting out property, has earned Carl a modest sum of money. He receives a surprise phone call from Mike Toreno, a former member of the Loco Syndicate (who was apparently killed), who reveals himself to be a government agent and is recruiting Carl's help in exchange for releasing Sweet from a life sentence. Although it is a well-kept secret from all of his friends, the Truth finds Carl at Toreno's place of operation, and warns Carl that Toreno can't be trusted. He continues to recruit Carl's help in stealing a Jetpack from Area 69, which is needed for the Truth's goal of stealing mysterious, enlightening green goo. Woozie invites CJ to the Triad's glamorous Four Dragons Casino in Las Venturas. Upon arrival, Carl is given shares in the casino by Woozie, "in exchange for some help setting it up". They are faced with aggressive competition from the Mafia-run Caligula's Palace and as revenge, spend time planning an extremely elaborate heist of Caligula's. This dually involves Carl infiltrating Caligula's inner circle of management (by chance of the Truth's association with music industry employees Kent Paul and Maccer) to work with their manager Ken Rosenberg and even Don Salvatore Leone, later helping the trio fake their deaths to escape Salvatore's rage. During this time period, C.R.A.S.H. extracts the last of Carl's labor before they try to kill Carl (and kill their own ally Jimmy Hernandez for snitching on them), with Carl killing Eddie Pulaski and escaping alive. Carl, by chance, sees Madd Dogg attempting suicide and saves his life, partially out of guilt for ruining his career. Carl's ongoing vendetta towards Tenpenny and Big Smoke, finalized by Madd Dogg having to sell his mansion to drug lord Big Poppa, prompts Carl to return to Los Santos, taking back the rapper's mansion by force. While recording Madd Dogg's new album, Toreno gives Carl the last of his work before Sweet is released from prison. Sweet is disgusted at Carl for his new millionaire's lifestyle, and for having forgotten all about helping the Grove Street Families. Sweet immediately takes Carl back to Grove Street to begin their task of reclaiming all of their turf. As the gang slowly begins their third return to power, Carl manages to get Madd Dogg's rhyme book back from OG Loc, reviving Madd Dogg's career, as well as striking being another blow to Big Smoke. In the case against Tenpenny, it's shown on the news that since there is no evidence implicating him in his criminal activities, he would walk free; seconds after, citywide riots commence in outrage at Tenpenny's acquittal. During the confusion, Grove Street Families retakes almost half of the city's turf, and, after an assault on his Crack Palace, Carl kills Big Smoke. After Carl and Sweet chase him across the city through the riots, Tenpenny also dies after his firetruck falls from a bridge above Grove Street. At a celebration in the Johnson house, Madd Dogg, accompanied by Ken, Kent, and Maccer, announces "our first gold record" to Carl. At the same time, Sweet insists on making Grove Street a priority, while Kendl Johnson suggests going back to Las Venturas with Wu Zi Mu, but Carl's only reply was that he was "fittin' to hit the block, see what's happening". The Fruntalot billboard with a man that resembles CJ. At the very end of the game, Carl is a young and wealthy man. His assets and business interests include the Grove Street Families gang and Madd Dogg's contract in Los Santos, a car garage and several other properties in San Fierro, and shares in the Four Dragons casino in Las Venturas, as well as the government's $60 million jetpack. It is suggested that Carl, Madd Dogg, Kent Paul and Maccer are to go on a world wide tour, as mentioned by Madd Dogg during the game's final cutscene. Maccer and Kent Paul are to ride along, giving another hint that Carl helped the two rebuild their band. A billboard outside the Middle Park East Safehouse depicts a man strongly resembling Carl in a suit and tie drinking wine with the word "Fruntalot" beside it, which is presumably the product that is being advertised. Either way, this nor the aforementioned Easter Egg is not considered canon for the 3D Universe. A newspaper in GTA IV also mentions a man named Carl Johnson. Mission Appearances GTA San Andreas * As the protagonist, he appears in all missions. CJ is markedly different from the previous playable characters in the Grand Theft Auto series. While Claude and Tommy Vercetti are both depicted as completely heartless and feeling no regret for all of the people that they kill, CJ is depicted as having a considerably less violent personality, occasionally giving his victims a chance to redeem themselves. An example is his failed attempt at convincing Eddie Pulaski to see that he was no more than Tenpenny's pawn. Furthermore, CJ displays genuine remorse for having to kill fellow Grove Street members Ryder and Big Smoke, who he considered close friends. However, CJ still has no problem with killing members of other gangs, and willfully slaughters any that get in his way of reclaiming Grove Street Families turf or try to sabotage his businesses, though in return, the gangsters are trying to kill CJ also. CJ's naïve personality, inexperience, and face-value interpretations of other characters' responses occasionally leads them to question CJ's intelligence (The Truth, Catalina). CJ, like his brother Sweet, holds a deep seated loyalty towards Grove Street and the hood, as seen in his reaction to the resentful attitude of his friends and siblings early on. Though, towards the end of the game, while Sweet was in prison, and CJ was making progress in San Fierro and Las Venturas, the unattended Grove Street became Ballas turf and was filled with crack dealers. CJ tries to get his brother to abandon the hood, for their assets elsewhere, but he is quickly convinced into re-taking the turf. CJ also handles most things in a "boss" like manner. This is shown during the mission The Meat Business when Carl keeps encouraging Ken Rosenberg to calm down and remember that "you're the boss". In the Beta Version and in The Introduction, CJ is seen wearing a black hoodie with blue jeans. CJ's default appearance in the final version of the game is a white tank top, with blue jeans and black tennis shoes. He is an African-American with a cesar hairstyle, black hair, brown eyes, a bit of facial hair and a thin body. CJ has been compared to and confused for both his father, and his brother Brian, suggesting that CJ bears a great resemblance to both of them. CJ is also stated to have been fatter or more muscular before he left for Liberty City, with his friends stating the east coast "thinned him out". CJ can have a large variety of appearances depending on the player. For example, he can wear cheap clothes from Binco or luxury clothes from ZIP. He can be muscular, thin or fat with the use of gyms and restaurants. He can also have different tattoos and hairstyles. Carl's voice actor, Young Maylay, is a rapper.

Perhaps here...Things will be different." ― Niko Bellic Niko Bellic (Serbian: Нико Белић, Niko Belić) is the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto IV and a supporting character in The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. He is also mentioned by Lester Crest and Patrick McReary in Grand Theft Auto V. The player can choose Niko Bellic as their parent model in Grand Theft Auto Online. Niko grew up in the Yugoslavia, where he fought in the Yugoslav Wars. He later worked for organized crime syndicates as a hired-gun in Liberty City. Ever since the Yugoslav Wars ended, Niko's main goal in life was to find and kill one of two men: Florian Cravic or Darko Brevic, for one of them betrayed and nearly killed him during the Wars. Niko is the younger cousin of Roman Bellic and the son of Milica Bellic. It was implied that his father was an abusive alcoholic. His mother, Milica Bellic, was unhappy that her son grew up in such a harsh place. In a conversation with Patrick McReary, Niko reveals that he had a brother who died during the Bosnian War. According to the dialogue in the mission Taking in the Trash, Niko dreamed of becoming an astronaut when he was a child. In a conversation with Dwayne Forge, Niko mentions the house where he grew up in did not have electricity until he was twelve. In a conversation with Kate McReary, Niko says that he found out his aunt (Roman's mother) was raped and murdered, some time after Roman's departure to the United States. Knowing Roman would be even more devastated if he knew the true circumstances of his mother's death, Niko covered up what happened, telling him that she died in a house fire. Bosnian Wars Niko grew up in the harsh environment of the Yugoslav Wars, and was a teenage soldier of presumably the Serb-controlled Yugoslav People's Army or its many aligned Serbian paramilitary forces and militias (The Yugoslav Wars were fought between 1991 and 1995, which means that Niko was only 13-17 years old at the time). Niko says that he was betrayed "ten years ago", making it closer to 1997 or 1998 (although Florian claims that its was "twelve or thirteen years ago" in a phone call after the mission That Special Someone). He served as a helicopter pilot and an infantryman during the war, and during the mission Easy Fare, Roman alludes to him driving a tank. During the war, Niko both witnessed and committed numerous atrocities, which led to his cynical perspective on life, and a certain degree of regret, depression, and emotional detachment. Eventually, Niko's unit of fifteen men (most of them friends from his hometown) were ambushed by enemy forces, but Darko Brevic, Florian Cravic, and Niko himself survived. Niko concluded that either Florian or Darko had sold the group out, and he vowed to uncover and kill the culprit, not only to gain revenge, but also to hopefully 'close the book' on the incident, and move on with his life. Post-war life Niko had trouble finding steady work after the war. Niko's cousin, Roman, had already moved to America to start a new life in Liberty City while Niko spends the next decade working in the European criminal underworld, leading to a period of incarceration in a European penitentiary. After his release from prison, he began working for a human trafficking ring led by Ray Bulgarin; when a boat involved in the operation sank in the Adriatic Sea during a smuggling run into Italy, Niko swam to safety, but everything and everyone else was lost. Bulgarin believed that Niko had intentionally scuttled the ship and stole his money; the gangster's reach was too great within Europe, so Niko joined the merchant navy to escape Bulgarin's influence. During Roman's Sorrow, Niko reminds Roman of an occasion in Europe where they encountered a bar which had burned down and there was only one bottle of vodka left, so they sat down and finished it off. Events of GTA IV "More people want me dead than alive. I'm working for the Mafia. The police and a government agency are both on my case. I kill and steal to scrape together a living so my cousin can fritter it away online and pay off debts...and all the while? People are trying to kill us! What is fun?" ―Niko Bellic Niko spent seven months on the cargo ship Platypus, which eventually smuggled Niko into Liberty City. During the game, Niko says he moved to Liberty City because he wanted a new life by living the American Dream, but when he does arrive in Liberty City, he has nothing except Roman. Niko parted ways with Hossan and the Platypus crew there, partly to reunite with his cousin, and partly to track down Florian Cravic, who had moved to Liberty City after the war. Roman had been boasting of great success in Liberty City, but in truth, his assets amounted to a small, gritty taxi depot and a derelict apartment, and he was saddled with heavy debts due to his gambling habit. Niko would assist Roman in his taxi business, and protect his cousin from the loan sharks who were harassing him. Roman's connections eventually led to Niko making friends with the Little Jacob, and taking work with the Russian Mafia, setting in motion the events of the game. After killing Vlad Glebov , Niko is spared by Mikhail Faustin, although Dimitri Rascalov wanted him and Roman killed. After killing Mikhail, Dimitri reveals his connections with Ray Bulgarin and turns against him, even trying to kill him. Niko and Roman flee Hove Beach when their apartment and Roman's taxi depot were burned down. It is at this point that Niko becomes a hitman and an associate of many. Mallorie Bardas, Roman's girlfriend, introduced him to two contacts, Manny Escuela and Elizabeta Torres. Niko develops affiliations and becomes a worker of the McReary Family, Playboy X, Dwayne Forge, the Pegorino Family and some others over the course of the game. Maximizing his hatred of Dimitri, Rascalov gets Roman kidnapped. Niko eventually becomes in forced contact with an International Affairs Agency front under the name of United Liberty Paper, who blackmails him into doing some "country-protecting" work. Also, Ray Boccino managed to help Niko find Florian Cravic. When Niko confronts him, Florian, who nows calls himself Bernie Crane, begs for forgiveness and claims he is not only a homosexual but that he is not the one who betrayed Niko (despite escaping). Niko forgives him and actually begins helping Bernie with his life. As a sign of gratitude towards Niko for his work with them, the U.L.P. locate Darko Brevic in Romania and smuggle him into Liberty City. Niko confronts Brevic, who confesses that he sold Niko's army unit out for $1,000, which he used to fund his heroin addiction. Enraged at the fact his unit were betrayed for such a paltry sum, Niko holds Brevic at gunpoint. Whether Niko kills Brevic or not depends on the player's actions. After his confrontation with Brevic, Niko meets Jimmy Pegorino again. Pegorino asks Niko to do a heroin deal with Dimitri Rascalov. Niko is reluctant to do so, because of the bitterness between himself and Rascalov. The conclusion of the storyline depends on the player's decision. * DealRevenge If the player chooses to do the deal with Rascalov, he will betray Niko again and send a hitman to assassinate Niko at his cousin's wedding. Niko survives and eventually kills the assassin, though his cousin Roman is killed during the shootout. Enraged by this, Niko chases Rascalov, who killed Jimmy Pegorino, throughout the city before confronting and killing him on Happiness Island. At the end of the game, a Weazel News report states that Niko is wanted for questioning by the police (although not as a suspect) for the events of his cousin's wedding. Niko's immigrant status is uncertain, and arouses the suspicion of the LCPD and FIB. Although Niko often protests that he "has his papers" while fleeing police, Roman says that Niko does not have a visa. This is further evidenced in a Liberty Tree article about the death of the Platypus's captain, Zorba Philippidis, which states that none of the crew possess visas. If Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend is played after Pest Control, Niko tells Packie that he intends to go after Ray Bulgarin, although Ray would be killed by Luis Lopez. Life Post-GTA IV "Perhaps, here... things will be different." This article, or parts of it, are Speculation and may not turn out to be correct. If Niko chooses to do the deal with Dimitri, Niko likely gives up his life of crime and stays close to his friends as they are there for him. Also, Niko says to Mallorie that her child will need not to worry about being fatherless, hinting Niko will help take care of her child and assume a fatherly role. If Niko chooses to seek Revenge on Dimitri, Niko's love interest is killed, so all he has left is his cousin and friends. He most likely gives up his life of crime and tries to live a normal one with Roman, as is hinted by the comments made about him in Grand Theft Auto V. Grand Theft Auto V "There was a, an eastern European guy making moves in Liberty City, but... nah, he went quiet." ―Lester Crest to Michael De Santa about Niko. Not much is known about Niko's life during the events of Grand Theft Auto V. It is hinted that he has completely given up a life of crime, and has now retired. While setting up for the first heist, Lester Crest mentioned to Michael De Santa that he knew "an Eastern European guy making moves in Liberty City", but dismissed the idea as "he went quiet". This would hint that he'd continued his life as a career criminal for a few more years before leaving it, especially if he was able to gain such notoriety as recently as of 2013. Later while on a heist, if Packie was chosen for the job, he begins talking about his most successful job in Liberty City, and then mentions Niko, revealing that he doesn't even know what became of him, and that he is "probably dead". It is possible though that Niko has cut all ties to his previous criminal lifestyle and is retired. If Michael survives the game, one potential scenario in his house sees his family gathered around the dining room table. Jimmy, Michael's son, is viewing a Lifeinvader page on a laptop. By using a camera to zoom in, the page is revealed to be that of Niko Bellic, complete with an image of the character. He now lives in Broker, still working as a taxi driver for Bellic Cab Service, and still in contact with Mallorie Bardas, Little Jacob, and Brucie Kibbutz who all liked his latest status, a Happy Birthday note for Roman which was posted recently. Either the Revenge ending was the canonical ending of GTA IV, or this was simply an easter egg. A wanted poster of Niko can be seen on the porch of a house just west of Sandy Shores. This, with his Lifeinvader activity, leaves the possibility that Niko may still be alive. During the "Got Your Back" private taxi fare, an Emperor sedan may spawn with the license plate "NIKOB". Overview Appearance Niko has brown hair and hazel eyes. He has facial hair that resembles a "scruffy" looking 5 o'clock shadow, which fits his 'thug' appearance very well. Niko isn't as heavily muscled as Luis or Johnny and he's more slender than both of them. Still, Niko has enough physical strength to hold his own in a fistfight and he's capable of pulling himself up on a ledge after hanging by his straight arms. Several characters throughout the story call Niko "big guy" or "big man", which likely means that he is of tall stature and/or heavy build. Niko has a scar running through his left brow. He most likely got the scar during the war but it's unconfirmed. Niko's body is of 'average' build, but characters like Bernie Crane, who mentions "Niko is still in great shape", later asking if Niko works out, to which Niko answers he doesn't work out but his dangerous lifestyle keeps him active, consider him to be "above average" build despite his slender appearance. Beta During early development, Niko had longer hair, longer bristles and brighter eyes. In artworks and earlier screenshots, Niko had often been seen wearing finger-less gloves. The files still remain in the PC version and can only be used with an in-game trainer. Obtaining them in the game without modding is impossible. The reason why they have been removed from the final version of the game is unknown, but it is likely due to the fact that they are not very inconspicuous. In early beta versions of GTA IV, Niko had slightly thicker hair and sometimes he can be seen with a buzz cut, neither of which appear in GTA IV, but still exist in the game files. Personality and traits Niko: "I'm not cold." Roman: "You're cold... all you care about is revenge and getting your own way." ―Roman giving his opinion on Niko. Niko is very protective of his family and loved ones, particularly his cousin Roman, whom Niko constantly has to worry about due to his gambling habit. Roman has an indiscrete nature of frequently getting the pair into trouble. He is withdrawn among strangers, but has good manners, and shows a softer side with love interests like Kate McReary and Michelle. That said, the horrors of war, both witnessed and perpetrated by Niko, have given him a great sense of guilt, and an ambivalence about the value of human life — he warns away pursuers and expresses regret over his past violence, but also feels that killing is all that he can do, readily taking on jobs which necessarily involve murder. Niko is prone to violence after being angered and he has an explosive temper when he is betrayed, manipulated, or his loyalty is questioned, but he is also quick to help the defenceless and unfortunate, even those he merely meets in passing; he apparently possesses a sense of idealism which was wounded by his wartime experiences. Unfortunately, such a split attitude leads to hypocrisy — Niko, for example, appears to genuinely sympathize with the McReary's grief over the demise of one of their brothers (either Derrick McReary or Francis McReary), despite having secretly committed that murder himself. This makes it highly possible that Niko is a pessimist. Niko's bitterness at the murder of his friends during the war has consumed him, and he is unable to let it go, taking on several highly dangerous jobs merely to enable his quest for vengeance. Several of his friends, most notably Roman, urge him to find a new reason to live, and there are many morality choices for Niko to emphasize his trait. Niko's business-like manner usually leads him to behave more maturely and cautiously than his acquaintances, although with acquaintances like Brucie Kibbutz, Bernie Crane and Roman, this is no surprise. He has an apparent distaste for illegal drugs, much like Carl Johnson and Victor Vance. He frequently turns down Little Jacob's offers for marijuana and warns Packie about his cocaine habit. He also finds it distasteful to traffic in cocaine and particularly heroin, although this may be due to the heavy jail sentences they attract as much as any moral qualms. He is skeptical of American mainstream culture, which he sees as "shallow" and "hypocritical" and has trouble relating to Roman's fascination with the country. However, he reasons that being in America is far better than back in Serbia due to the country's instability and misery. Niko also exhibits dislike for American conservative politicians, whom he considers to be hypocrites. An example is Bryce Dawkins, whom Niko says is a "bullshitter" for giving homophobic speeches and preaching about family values to gain political power when he himself is bisexual. However, a conversation between Niko and Kiki Jenkins reveals he considers himself neither liberal nor conservative, and that the war gave him a highly cynical view of politicians in general. Niko has a certain degree of pity for other people, even random strangers, and feels obliged to help others who cannot help themselves. Most missions involve Niko doing jobs for money, particularly one occasion. After meeting a troubled young girl, Marnie Allen, he even gives her some of his own money multiple times to help her out. He is also surprisingly calm when speaking to authority figures, even those as powerful as Francis McReary, who he simply asks for more money from, much to the disappointment and frustration of McReary. He is usually never emotionally disturbed by anyone besides figures from his past, such as Darko Brevic. If Niko kills Brevic, Niko will hesitate for a moment before unloading 12 shots (one for every member of Niko's army unit who was killed) into Brevic's body uncontrollably, even after Brevic's death after about the sixth shot. The only other figure that has visibly disturbed Niko is Eddie Low, who Niko is understandably creeped out by. This can even horrify the player to an extent, such as when Low makes comments about all the people he has murdered in gruesome ways, or Low's clinginess towards Niko for being his 'friend'. During his encounters with Low, Niko's eyebrows are raised and his mouth is open in disbelief. Otherwise, Niko's face is usually very serious. Niko almost always refuses alcohol when it is offered to him (he asks for water in the mission Ivan The Not So Terrible) except for the mission The Holland Play where Playboy X pours him a glass. Niko goes to drink it, but changes his mind and puts the glass on a table. There is a scene where Niko does drink a glass of vodka (on the rocks) in the mission One Last Thing, while talking to Jimmy Pegorino, but this is understandable considering what he had just been through. Niko does seem to enjoy a drink, but knows the time and place for it. He refuses alcohol outright in instances where he needs to keep a sharp mind, such as during missions. Without the player's control, Niko will never hit female pedestrians. For example, when Niko carjacks someone, the animation can sometimes see him punch or kick the occupant of the car, but he only does this to male drivers. If the driver is female, Niko will just pull her out of the car and not harm her. The name "Niko" means nobody or nothing in the Serbian and Croatian language. The surname "Bellic" would not exist in the Croatian, Serbian or Bosnian languages, as these do not allow consecutive consonants (i.e., the double-L in "Bellic"); "Bellic" is also pronounced with a hard 'c' ("bel-lik") throughout the game — Niko himself uses the incorrect pronunciation when introducing himself to the receptionist at Goldberg, Ligner and Shyster in the mission Final Interview. A proper pronunciation would use a hard 'ch' (as used in-game with the names "Darko Brevic" and "Florian Cravic"); a more authentic rendering of Niko's surname would be 'Belic'. At one point, Florian, speaking in his native Serbian, pronounces the name correctly; "Bellic" may simply be an Anglicised version of "Belic". Going by that custom, Niko's real name may be Nikola Belić. The surname "Bellic" is likely derived from Russian rather than Serbian, which is incorrect. The first name "Niko" is distinctively Croatian, rather than Serbian — the Serbian equivalent would be "Nikola". In the mission Final Interview, Tom Goldberg refers to Niko as "Nikolai", although this is an assumption on his part — he begins their interview by saying, "Hello, Niko! What's that short for? Nikolai?" Niko does not respond and no one else calls him "Nikolai" in the game. Niko's voice actor, Michael Hollick, is American, and the accent he assumes for Niko is not a Serbian one; Niko's spoken Serbian is frequently mispronounced or wrongly emphasised. In Other Media Grand Theft Auto Online Niko Bellic is available as a special parent, used in creating the player's custom character, alongside Misty, Claude and John Marston from Red Dead Redemption. A comparison between Sasha and Niko. Popularity Niko was voted 13th in the 2011 edition of the Guinness World Records for the Top 50 favorite game characters. His name was incorrectly spelled "Nico Bellic." Based On Niko appears to be visually inspired by Sasha from the 2001 movie Behind Enemy Lines, which takes place in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war. Sasha's clothes are even available to buy in the Russian Shop. Sasha's actor Vladimir Mashkov later confirmed in an interview that he was asked to play "a man with a dark past, with a slightly rumpled appearance" in an unnamed video game, whose producers liked his performance as Sasha. Given few details about what he was being asked to do or what for, Mashkov thought it was a questionable proposal and not very interesting, and he turned it down. Only later did he learn that the game was GTA IV. Appearances Grand Theft Auto IV * As the protagonist, he appears in all missions. In the episode, a missing child is reported as being named "Niko Bellic". The senior agent Rossi immediately catches on: "Niko Bellic is the name of the main character of Grand Theft Auto IV." His co-workers stare at him in disbelief, to which he replies, "What? I know things." * Niko is the only protagonist in the GTA IV era who does not wear an earring. * Niko has unique quotes for when failing missions. He will say things like "****, ****, ****!" or "Roman, I should have never read your ****ing emails and stayed away!". Based on some of his comments, Niko seems to blame the country for failing missions. * According to some dialogue, many characters think Niko is a sociopath. This however was not proven, but it is debatable because of how Niko -- at least until his phone call with Roman after Pest Control -- seems to show no remorse whatsoever for all his murders. This is most likely untrue as Niko is shown to have a firm grasp of right and wrong pertaining to some of his more morally questionable actions. It is much more likely that Niko is indifferent to bloodshed given his violent upbringing. * Niko had a childhood crush on a girl from his village, named Mila Tadic. Roman will confirm this during friend activities. * Vladimir Glebov calls Niko "yokel" multiple times in the game. Yokel is a derogatory term for people who grew up in poor countries. * Niko was a reckless driver before he even left his home country, as Roman comments that he is still a crazy driver. When destroying Roman's cab during Easy Fare, Roman will joke on how Niko always blows up normal cars but doesn't crash "the tanks from back home". * In a conversation with Manny Escuela during Escuela of the Streets, he claims that he stalked a woman in Europe (and knows the right distance to keep behind the target vehicle). The reason for this is never stated, but he could've been joking. * One of Niko's girlfriends, Alexandra Chilton, frequently reveals on her blog that Niko has a very large penis, comments refer to his "bulging package" and how "well-hung" he is. After Niko sleeps with her for the first time, she writes on her blog that she is to discuss this with her friends, Heidi and Paige. Alex also comments that he can be rough and kinky, including a session where he "bullfrogged" her over a washing machine, which she recorded and spanked her with a frying pan, among others. She also writes how she once had to steam clean her whole flat after he left. Alex wonders if all Europeans are like that, which also ties in with Niko's cousin, Roman, and his attitude towards sex, as someone is often on the prowl for young college girls. * Niko is seen a couple times on the commercial for VIP Luxury Ringtones. As he is seen wearing a yellow Perseus jacket, the Russian cap from the Russian Shop, and a pair of white sunglasses, which never made it into the game. * Apparently Niko was arrested in 2008 for Grand Theft Auto, this is a nod to when GTA IV was released and obviously a nod to the title of the series. Oddly, this can be found in the LCPD Database from the start of the game, even when Niko has just arrived in Liberty City and has not yet committed any crimes. * In GTA V, one can find a wanted poster for Niko on a table near a trailer in the Grand Senora Desert. * Niko's favorite radio stations are Liberty Rock Radio and Vladivostok FM. Niko also appears to like The Vibe, as when he is in a taxi and asks the driver to change the station, he may sometimes say "You know The Vibe? It's great music". Niko also mentions that he "likes rap a bit", but is not a "crazy fan". During friendship activities with Little Jacob, Niko mentions that "this city has some powerful music", and tells Jacob that he likes Bobby Konders, the DJ on Massive B Soundystem. However, Niko's favorite station will ultimately be down to the player. * After stealing money from the cash registers found in various places around Liberty City, there will be a delay before Niko says something like "forgive me" for stealing the cash. * In GTA V, inside the Yellow Jack Inn, one can find a picture that appears to be Niko driving a Tow Truck. * Niko is the most combat trained protagonist of the entire series at the start of a game. * In GTA V, a homeless man can be found holding a sign that begs for money and it says that "some Serbian men" robbed him, this could be a reference to Niko.

I got responsibllities." ―Victor to Sgt Martinez. Much of Victor's life prior to the events of Vice City Stories is unknown. Victor's father came from the Dominican Republic, and worked as a soldier, while Victor's mother, Janet Vance, was a white woman who showed little care or interest in Vic and his siblings. Victor, born in the state of Florida, had two younger brothers, Lance and Pete. As their father's fate was unknown, and their mother was unfit to raise them, Vic and his brothers were raised by their aunt, Enid. Pete suffers from asthma, prompting Vic, who mostly acted as a guardian for his brothers, to join the military serving at Vice City's base of Fort Baxter Air Base in order to pay off the medicine Pete needed. 1984: Events of GTA Vice City Stories Serving The Army "So you joined the army... to get rich?" ―Jerry Martinez to Vic Vance. Vic at Martinez' office. Victor arrives in Fort Baxter Air Base, presenting himself at his superior's office, Jerry Martinez, who asks him why he joined the army, to which Vic explains his difficult family problems. Jerry, understanding Vic's need of money, convinces him to pick up a package containing drugs from Martinez' associate. Taking Martinez's bike, Vic meets up with the man possessing the package, a dealer who owns a yacht. Aboard the yacht, as the dealer gives the package to Vic, a group of hitmen attack the yacht, destroying it. Vic survives and escapes back to the base, hiding the package under his bed after receiving a Pager message from Martinez. Vic then returns to Martinez' office, sharing his worries about the drugs with his superior, only to be silenced by Jerry. Jerry sends Vic to Phil Cassidy, a drunken arms dealer who can sell weapons for them. Finding Phil at a depot in Viceport, Vic asks for Jerry's money. After they drive to the money's presumed location, Phil reveals that he does not have Jerry's money, as it was taken by the Cholos who took over Phil's house. Vic kills the Cholos, finds the money, and takes it back to Jerry. Vic enters Jerry's office, who is watching a pornographic film featuring Candy Suxxx. Jerry asks Vic to pick up his favorite prostitute, Mary, for him in Viceport. Jerry also says that he will take care of the drugs under Vic's bed while Vic does the job. Victor drives to Phil's place, where he is given a red Stinger. At Viceport, Vic finds Mona, Mary's friend, who tells him that Mary is at a party on Starfish Island. Vic finds Mary and takes her to the base, but not before killing a few men who had paid for Mary at the party. Entering the base, Vic is busted by another superior officer, Sergeant Peppah. Enraged by the drugs found under Vance's bed as well bringing a stripper to the base, Peppah kicks Vic out of the army, calling him a disgrace. After being kicked out of the army, Vic receives a pager message from Phil, telling him that he has some work for him, as well as a place to live if he needs it. At Phil's place, a drunken Phil holds Vic at gun point, thinking Vic is robbing him. Once sober, Phil, wanting to kill Cholos, has Vic drive him across the city until he finds a Cholo and kills him. The two then return to Phil's depot. On their second mssion, Vic finds Phil lying at the depot, once again drunk. Phil reveals that the Cholos are planning to blow up his Boomshine liquor stored at The Big Package Storage Co. warehouse in Little Havana, which could destroy much of Vice City. The two drive to the warehouse, and when Phil opens the door, an explosion is triggered inside. Before the warehouse is completely destroyed, Victor uses a Forklift to move four cases of boomshine on to the back of Phil's Walton. Phil then drives away to find a safe place to store the boomshine. On the next mission from Phil, Vic encounters Martinez at Phil's place, smoking alongside Phil. Jerry shows no remorse for having Vic kicked from the army. Vic and Phil leave to collect Jerry's weapons, which are aboard a truck. The duo, along with two thugs as a backup, steal the truck and bring it to Jerry. Following his first mission with Phil, Vic is sent by him to work under his brother in-law, Marty Jay Williams, leader of the infamous Trailer Park Mafia. Vic arrives at Marty's trailer, finding Marty's wife (and Phil's sister), Louise Cassidy-Williams, and Mary-Beth Williams, Marty's baby daughter. After Marty arrives (and threatens Louise), Vic introduces himself, and the pair leave to take care of Marty's business. During the ride to a Mal Viento store in Little Havana, Marty explains to Vic how his business ring works. At the store, Vic is ordered to kill the Cholos who tried to whack it. The duo arrive at a Cholo store, Verdi, and take it for themselves. During the following missions, Marty orders Vic to steal three vehicles, defend Marty's business from the Cholos, and destroy their vans, killing Cholos at their brothel. Following the last mission, the Cholos want revenge against Marty, and decide to attack the prostitutes who work with him, but Vic manages to foil their plans. Mary-Jo telling Vic that Marty has kidnapped Louise. Since their first meeting, Vic developed sympathy for Marty's wife, Louise, seeing the amount of pain she is enduring from Marty. After Louise moves to her sister Mary-Jo's place, Vic comes to console her, and the two begin hanging out a bit, competing against each other in a quad race. Later, Louise tells Vic that she wants to collect her belongings from her and Marty's trailer. At the trailer, Vic kills four members of Marty's gang, while Louise takes her belongings, as well as Marty's wallet. The two then escape the trailer park. After the last mission with Louise, Vic later comes to her house, only to find a worried Mary-Jo telling him that Marty has kidnapped Louise, and plans to rape her. Vic sets out to rescue Louise. After chasing Marty's car, he kills Marty and saves Louise. In order to lie low from Marty's gang, Vic and Louise use The Compound in Little Haiti as a safehouse. Martinez: "I gave you a life." Vic: "Go to hell, Martinez." ―Vic showing his distrust at Martinez. During his mess-ups with Marty, Vic goes to Phil's depot, finding Martinez talking to Phil, who is no longer trusting Jerry Martinez telling Phil to check out his merchandise in a warehouse in Little Haiti. Phil decides to do the job, hoping for more work and money, whilst Victor decides to go and help Phil in case Martinez tries to kill him. This is revealed to be the case, as Martinez' men ambush Vic and Phil at the warehouse, but they manage to escape from death. Following this incident, Phil decides to hide from Martinez for a while, while Vic cuts his ties with his treacherous ex-superior, marking Martinez as an enemy. "Why don't YOU take over Marty's business?" ―Louise to Vic. With Marty dead, and with Louise's support, Victor decides to take over Marty's and his gang's businesses. After hiring a few henchmen, Vic and Louise attack Marty's loan sharking business, killing many of Marty's men, and taking over all of Marty's businesses. Following this, Vic starts to get power in the city's crimeworld, establishing his own gang, the Vance crime family. Vic and Lance. After making his first step as a gang boss, Vic receives a Pager message telling him to meet a family member at the airport, who will help Vic in building his own businesses. This relative turns to be Lance, Vic's younger brother, much to Vic's disappointment, who sees Lance as nothing but a troublemaker. After a conversation, the two brothers enter Vic's car, but are soon confronted by the Cholos, angry at Vic for previous clashes with the gang. The two manage to escape their attackers, though Lance crashes Vic's car. Vic then drives Lance to the latter's hotel. Vic's new business are later set on fire by Marty's cousin as an act of revenge. Vic, along with Louise, takes a fire truck and drives to the flaming business, putting out the fire. Louise notices Marty's cousin, and Vic kills him. Vic later helps Louise in keeping her baby daughter from the welfare. Alliance with the Cubans Vic meets Umberto for the first time. After meeting Lance at the airport, Vic receives a Pager message from Umberto Robina, the leader of the Cuban gang in Vice City, who wants to work with him upon hearing he took over Marty's business. Vic agrees, but Umberto first wants to see if Vic has the "balls" to be a business partner. Vic is given a task to take a package from a Cuban while being chased by other Cubans. Victor succeeds picking up the package and takes it back to Umberto, forming an alliance between Vance and Robina. Umberto's later missions for Vic involve the Cubans' war with the Cholos. First, Vic is ordered by Umberto to kill Cholos who are causing him much trouble around his neighborhood. Umberto also informs Vic that Marty had caused his business troubles. Later on, Vic finds a crying Umberto, who is afraid that his father, Alberto, will be killed by the Cholos as he went to see wrestling. Vic, finding Alberto safe, drives him to his Café Robina, whilst avoiding the Cholos. Enraged by the Cholos' attempt on his father, Umberto decides to finish the Cholos once and for all. Vic and the Cubans arrive at a warehouse belong to the Cholos, stealing the weapons located there, and leaving a "gift" containing explosives. The warehouse is blown up, killing many of the Cholos, including their leader. Following this event, the Cholos are destroyed, with Vic and Umberto taking over their business. The DEA agent Lance finds a new associate called Bryan Forbes, who will tell him about any drugs shipments sailing into the city. Driving to King Knut's Burger bar, Lance phones Forbes on the drugs, until three robbers attempt to rob the bar. Vic and Lance escape as police officers who have arrived at the scene think they are the robbers. Escaping to Port Authority Building, Vic and Lance take Forbes' car. Lance then drives the car to Forbes' place. Vic is introduced to Forbes at the latter's apartment, being in the middle of a conversation with Lance. The three, wanting to take a van full with drugs whilst not being noticed by the police, take a second van used as a decoy to fool the officers. After Lance and Forbes bring the van to its destination, Vic manages to escape from the police. Forbes being held by Vic and Lance. Later, Lance finds out that Forbes was actually an undercover agent for the DEA. Lance holds Bryan at a gunpoint, but Forbes manages to escape and get into a car, driving away from the Vance brothers. However, Vic and Lance chase and capture him, taking him to a building in Little Haiti to get more information. Tied up, Forbes tells them on a dealer who can give them both money and drugs, but believes only in one-on-one meetings, so Lance will attempt the deal while Vic will watch over the scene from a nearby building. The deal, held on the docks, is revealed to be a trap, with the dealer knocking out Lance and kidnapping him. Vic chases him, saving Lance, and killing the dealer and his associates, the Sharks. Vic and Lance return to the place where Bryan is held, wanting information on the drugs shipments. Forbes tells them he has a contact at the White Stallionz' bar. This turns out to be another trap, and Vic and Lance find themselves surrounded by homosexual white supremacist Bikers. After escaping the bar, killing several bikers in the procces, and returning to the place where Forbes is held, Vic and Lance notice him attempting to escape. They chase him down and kill him, obtaining his ID. The cocaine and the mother The Vance brothers' mother, Janet, appears before Vic and Lance. Vic storms into Lance's hotel apartment, throwing his phone on the floor and threatening Lance for making trouble. Janet Vance, Vic's and Lance's mother, enters the apartment, alongside her boyfriend Javier, saying that she is clean from drugs, but the two brothers just ignore her. Lance tells Victor of some "files" about the big shipment coming to the city at the Escobar International Airport. After getting there, they find out that the "files" were sold already. Vic and Lance discover the buyer and kill him, obtaining the files. Vic taunting Martinez, after stealing his drug shipment. Lance later finds out that the shipment belongs to Jerry Martinez. The two decide to steal the shipment form Martinez for themselves. At the docks in Little Haiti, Vic and Lance kill some of Jerry's men, stealing the two Barracks OLs containing the cocaine, and avoiding Jerry's men. On the bridge to Washington Beach, the two are attacked by Martinez, who's in a Hunter, firing missiles at them. The two manage to lose Martinez thanks to the police, and drive the drugs into a new safehouse. Back at the new safehouse, Vic phones Martinez, taunting him. Martinez reveals that the cocaine they stole belonged to Diego and Armando Mendez, and that they will kill anyone who is involved with their drugs, including Vic and Martinez himself. Lance tells Vic he has a buyer who will pay for the drugs, and with the money the Mendez brothers will be unable to touch them. Driving to the North Point Mall in Vice Point, Vic and Lance meet Spitz, the buyer, who needs a stuntman to finish a horror movie for him inside the mall. Vic decides to do the stunts while Spitz and Lance do their drug trade. Once finished Vic and Lance both drive over to Lance's apartment in Ocean Beach to pick up the rest of the drugs but upon arriving they find out that their mother and her boyfriend have taken all the drugs. Meeting Reni "If you wanna film 'snow-white', see Reni up at the Film Studios..." ―Spitz, via Pager. After helping Spitz with the stunts of his film, Spitz sends Vic a message telling him to go to someone called Reni at the InterGlobal Films studios. At the studios, Vic meets Reni Wassulmaier, a transsexual film director, and his assistant Frankie. As Reni tries to flirt with Vic, Frankie enters the room, telling them that their stunt man quit because of Reni touching his buttocks. Vic agrees to replace the stuntman and Reni films his stunts. Vic then begins to work with Reni. The Mendez brothers As the cocaine is gone with their mother, Lance becomes worried of what will happen to him and Vic when the Mendez brothers will find out who stole their cocaine. After Vic argued with Lance, they get a phone telling them that the Mendez brothers have launched an assault on their businesses. Vic and Lance, with help from their gang, manage to kill every Mendez goon, protecting their business. Lance and Vic at the Mendez mansion. Vic and Lance are later taken to Armando and Diego, at the brothers' mansion on Prawn Island. Armando suggest that the Vance brothers will work together with him and Diego, which would spare Vic and Lance from death. Having no other option, Vic and Lance begin to work for the Mendez Cartel. Armando asks them who has been ripping them off, with Lance answering it was Martinez. Armando demands from Vic and Lance a proof immediately. Knowing that Martinez is turning states, Lance convinces Vic to take photos of Martinez speaking with the police. After taking the photos, Vic and Lance use them along with Forbes' ID to make it look like Martinez was an undercover agent. Having the "proof", Vic begins to work for Armando. Armando's first mission for Vic is to take care of Bikers who have not paid their long-time debts for Mendez' gang. At Vice Point, Vic kills the bikers, finishing off even the ones who tried to escape. In the second mission, Vic enters the mansion, finding Diego who does not want to talk with him. Armando appears and tells Vic to get rid of two rival dealers at Ocean Beach. Vic kills the first one with no effort, and then finds a heavily guarded second one, by his prostitutes. He and his bodyguards are also killed by Vic. Armando later tells Vic that Diego has told the police that the stolen cocaine belongs to Vic. In order to save himself from being arrested, Vic takes a Maverick with a magnet and flies towards the containers, taking them away and dropping them in different locations. After his jobs for the Mendez brothers, Vic goes to see Lance, finding out that Lance's apartment has been bugged by the DEA. Vic and Lance set to destroy police antennas, leaving the DEA without any way or evidence to arrest the two Vance brothers. Early works with Reni After his jobs for the Mendez brothers, Vic returns to work with Reni. Reni first asks Vic to help an associate, Gonzalez, in protecting his drugs whilst he moves the drugs to Viceport. At Downtown, Vic meets Gonzalez, who informs him that they need to move the drugs, which belong to his boss, Juan Cortez. Vic protects Gonzalez and the drugs from attacking boats belonging to the Sharks, leading them to safety. Reni asking Vic to protect Barry and Phil Collins. Reni later asks Vic to protect Barry Mickelthwaite and his client, famous singer Phil Collins. It is revealed that Giorgio Forelli had given Barry $3 million, but now wants his money back. The Forellis attack Barry and Phil, attempting to assassinate the latter, but Vic manages to kill the Forelli hitmen and drive the two to safety, to their hotel on Ocean Beach. Reni also asks Vic to help him/her in a commercial making for cheese, asking him to be a stuntman using a Jetski. Phil's concert in the Hyman Memorial Stadium in Downtown is about to be started in a few days, but he fears about entering the stadium due to him being targeted by the Forellis. Vic is sent by Reni and Barry to clean the stadium of hitmen. After Vic kills every hitman in the area, Phil arrives at the stadium. Helping Gonzalez After his jobs with Reni, Vic begins to help Gonzalez on a couple of missions. Vic meets Gonzalez at the golf range in Leaf Links, who asks Vic if he knows how to play golf. Gonzalez tells Vic that if he can play golf, then they can start a business relationship. During the golf game, Vic gets a perfect score by hitting a tied man who betrayed Gonzalez, leading Gonzalez to praise him, starting a new, short partnership between them. Later, Gonzalez tells Vic to take drugs from a lockup at Ocean Beach and bring them to a deal at Washington Beach. Taking the van full of drugs, Vic drives to the meeting place, only to be ambushed by drug dealers. Going to a pay-phone, Vic, drugged, calls to Gonzalez, telling him the situation. Furious, Gonzalez orders Vic to take back the drugs from the thieves and kill them. Vic brings back the van with drugs to Gonzalez. Gonzalez thanks him for bringing back the drugs, but due to Vic's partial failure and some of the dealers being enemies, Gonzalez cuts his ties with him. Lance and Louise Vic: "Lance, come back here!" Lance: "Shut up! You're always telling me what to do! But if it wasn't for me, we wouldn't have any of this! If I wanna take coke, I will! If I wanna give it away, I will! And I'm gonna give it away! All of it! And you can't stop me!" ―Vic and Lance following their arguement. Coming to Lance's apartment, after a brief talk, Vic asks Lance who stole their drugs. Lance blames the theft on the Bikers. Using a Maverick, Vic flies over Starfish Island, where the Bikers are riding. After a shootout over Downtown, Lance falls from the helicopter while Vic bails out as the helicopter is destroyed. After killing all the bikers, Vic finds Lance safe and alive, who takes a Chopper for himself and rides away on a ramp. Vic arrives again in Lance's apartment, finding out he is using the cocaine for himself. Louise, also high, comes out from the kitchen, much to Vic's shock. After a loud argument, Lance, annoyed by the idea that Vic treats him like a child, runs out to his helicopter and threatens that he will spread all the cocaine over the city. Vic drives a hovercraft and manages to pick up all the packages. Vic later finds a half-asleep Lance who does not remember what he has done. Louise calls Lance's apartment, telling Vic that Martinez' men were following her and she is hiding behind a burger bar in Little Haiti. Vic finds her, kills Martinez' men, and takes her to a hospital. Working for Diaz Vic meets Diaz. Vic begins to work for drug baron Ricardo Diaz, who is aware of Gonzalez' deal. Diaz sends Vic and Lance to steal Gonzalez' shipment. Vic and Lance head to The Pole Position Club in Ocean Beach. One of Gonzalez' goons comes out of the strip club and drives off in a sports car parked there and they decide to follow him. Vic follows him until eventually finding and stealing a speedboat loaded with the drugs, taking it back to Diaz. Vic and Diaz at the latter's mansion. Later, Diaz made a deal with the DEA, and in exchange for the drugs he will give to the agency, they will give him heavy weapons. Vic and some of Diaz' men go to the meeting point in Downtown. Gonzalez' men attack them, killing Vic's henchmen, but Vic manages to kill them and clear the meeting place before the DEA agents arrive. After getting the truck with the weapons, Vic heads back to Diaz' mansion. Diaz later captures Gonzalez, wanting him to work for and tell Diaz on every shipment coming into Vice City. As Gonzalez has to fly away from the city with the Colonel's drugs but is threatened to be killed by the Sharks, Vic serves as a bodyguard for him, watching over as Gonzalez first drives a truck to the airport, and then gets on his plane away from the Sharks. Mendez' betrayal Armando: "You came to my town, you run around like a maniac. You bring the police and the DEA into my life, and now I want you gone." Vic: "Hey, I made a ton of money for you, money I DIDN'T lose." ―The Mendez brothers about to betray Vic and Lance. Armando and Diego offering Vic and Lance their freedom in exchange for their assets. Vic and Lance meet with the Mendez brothers at their mansion. The Mendez brothers offer Vic and Lance their freedom, only if they will leave the city and hand over their assets to the Cartel. Vic and Lance refuse, and are soon attacked and knocked out by Mendez bodyguards. The two are taken, weaponless, to an area in Viceport and are placed beside three oil tankers. Mendez goons that were ordered to finish them off aim at the Vance brothers, but they miss and die due to a tanker exploding from being shot. After escaping, Vic and Lance split up, knowing now that they are enemies of the Mendez Cartel. Following the incident, Vic cuts all of his ties with the Mendez brothers. As the Mendez brothers launch an attack on Vic's and Lance's business empire, Lance sets a counter attack. The two get support from Phil Cassidy, and Umberto and his Cubans. Vic and his allies manage to protect their business empire from the attacking Mendez goons. After Vic and Lance cleared their area from the Mendez goons, Umberto and Phil send a Pager message to Lance, saying that they too cleaned the businesses from the Mendez brothers. Last tasks Fighting against Mendez After the betrayal of Mendez, Vic is informed by Lance that Martinez is attempting to kidnap Louise, who is about to come out of the hospital. After picking up Louise, Lance sends him a message telling him he is stuck in a burning building. Taking a helicopter on the hospital's roof, Vic and Louise set to rescue Lance. Lance reveals he was attacked by Martinez's goons who stole his money. After Lance takes back his money from the dead goons, he leaves Vic, who takes Louise back to her sister's house. Vic returns to Diaz' mansion, finding out that Lance has borrowed money from Diaz. Outside the mansion, one of his men tells him that Lance ordered a high-tech gear near to Mendez' mansion. Vic drives to find a van with a gear to control Armando's robotic servant, Domestobot. Controling the robot, Vic tries to find the Mendez brothers' safe, containing the Cartel's money. After doing a few tasks for Armando, Vic finds the safe and uses the robot's lighter to set it on fire. An angry Armando pulls out a pistol and destroys the robot. Reni's final missions Reni explaining his/her situation with Diego Mendez to Vic. Later, Reni wants to get his fourth sex change, but cannot get out of his studio into the hospital because Diego Mendez is angry at him for introducing Vic to Diaz. Vic helps Reni by killing the Mendez hitmen after them and then drives him to the hospital. After Reni has received his fourth sex change, becoming a woman again, Vic enters the hospital, finding her, Phil Collins, and Barry talking. Because she is wanted dead by Diego Mendez, Vic decides to drive her to the Escobar International Airport, protecting her from Diego's hitmen in the process. After taking Reni to the airport, Vic helps Barry in protecting Phil during his concert at the Hyman Memorial Stadium. After defending Phil's concert out and in the stadium, killing any Forelli hitman he encounters, Vic is thanked by Phil, who also jokingly asks him if he wants to replace Barry as Phil's manager. Vic is also given an option to buy a ticket and see Phil's performance. Last Stand Louise's death Louise: "We could've had something special." Vic: "Yeah... no, we had something special." Louise: "Make sure Mary-Jo takes care of my baby." Vic: "Oh Louise, Louise.." —Louise's last moment with Vic before dying. Vic and Louise, moments before her death. Vic arrives in Lance's apartment, looking for Louise, but only finds Lance. The two are informed by Mary-Jo that Armando Mendez has kidnapped Louise and taken her to his mansion. Vic and Lance follow Mendez goons who have destroyed Lance's Infernus. Despite many attacks from the Mendez goons, they manage to arrive at the mansion. An enraged Lance rushes to the mansion to avenge his car, leaving Vic alone to fight Armando's men. Entering the mansion, Vic confronts Armando, who tells Vic that both Lance and Louise are dead. Vic fights Armando, who wields a Flamethrower. Vic manages to kill Armando and makes his way to Armando's office, finding Lance and a badly-injured Louise. In their last moments together, Louise says that her and Vic's relationship could have been special, leading Vic to say that it was already special. Louise tells Vic to make sure that her daughter will be under her sister's care, before dying. Vic and Lance then leave the mansion. After Armando's death, Vic is informed by Diaz that Diego is hiding at the Mendez Compound in Downtown, which can be impossible to enter. Diaz also informs that a new Hunter that has been just delivered to Fort Baxter Air Base, which can be used as an aerial attack on Mendez' building. Going to Phil's warehouse, he finds a drunk Phil mourning Louise's death. With Phil's help, Vic enters the base, finding the Hunter and taking it to Diaz. Finishing Martinez and Mendez "I'm not coming back, Diaz. And I'm not doing it for you! I'm doing it for myself." ―Vic to Diaz, before flying to Mendez' hideout. Obtaining the attack helicopter, Vic leaves Diaz' mansion to finish off both Diego Mendez and Jerry Martinez. Vic flies to the Mendez Compound after exchanging some last words with Diaz. Vic attacks the building's upper floors, but his helicopter is soon destroyed by a Rocket Launcher. Vic enters the building, clearing his way of Mendez goons. Vic notices Diego and chases him to the highest floor. On the top floor, Vic is confronted by both Diego and Martinez. After a shootout with Martinez and Mendez, Vic manages to kill both men, finally avenging Louise. Vic looking at Lance's helicopter, after killing Jerry and Diego. After killing Jerry and Diego, Vic sees Lance arriving on a helicopter, attempting to help Vic in the gunfight Vic already finished. The two embrace as they are finally over their problems, and fly from the building, deciding to lay low for a while and get out of town. Lance offers Victor twenty kilo's of cocaine for a deal ahead, however Victor denies his interest and says that he wants to stay away from drugs. He then says that he would send some money to their sick brother Pete for the medical treatment required for him. By the end of the game Victor is a very wealthy man. Post-Vice City Stories "Lance Vance's brother. Head of Vance crime family. Only two members." ―The VCBI record of Victor, circa 1986. After the events of Vice City Stories, Vic and Lance decided to stay low, away from the crime life, however, the two began to work again by 1986. Files from GTA: Vice City reveal that Vic and Lance operated out of Mexico by 1986, and now own a farm in Panama, most likely where they keep their stash. By 1986, the influence of the Vance crime family has decreased, with the VCPD claiming that only Vic and Lance remain from the gang. 1986: Events of GTA Vice City Death Victor Vance, 1986, moments before his death. "I think we have a deal, my friend. HA HA!" ―Vic's last words, to Tommy. In 1986, Lance and Vic set up a deal with the Forelli crime family, apparently by the help of Colonel Cortez. Vic and Lance arrive on a helicopter to Vice City's docks, while Forelli's associates Tommy Vercetti, Harry, and Lee arrive with $2 million, driven by Ken Rosenberg. Vic comes out of the helicopter, wielding cases full of cocaine, whilst Tommy and his associate come to him with the money cases. As the two groups are about to exchange their goods, a small group of hitmen arrives and shoots at them, killing Vic, Harry and Lee, whilst Tommy and Ken drive off and Lance flies away from the scene. Legacy "This is for my brother!" ―Lance Vance. After Vic's death and the failure of the drug deal, Lance, who survived the ambush, sides up with Tommy, one of the survivors from Forelli's side, to find out the man responsible. Lance, aided by Tommy Vercetti, prepares to kill Diaz, the man behind Vic's death. With the help of Colonel Cortez, the two find out that Diaz, the same man who employed Vic and Lance two years ago, was the man who called an ambush on the deal. After working a bit for Diaz to be sure, Lance loses his temper and attacks one of Diaz' fronts, but is captured by Diaz's men, only to be saved by Tommy. With a sneak attack failed due to Lance's previous action, Lance and Tommy decide to openly attack Diaz' mansion, armed with powerful Colt Model 733 rifles. The duo wipe out Diaz's gang and confront Diaz, armed with an MP5 SMG, and defeat him. As Diaz lays on his mansion's floor, Lance and Tommy approach him, with Lance claiming he's doing it for his brother. Lance, aided by Tommy, executes the drug baron, avenging Vic's death. Victor is a tough and sometimes strict person when it comes to the crimes he unwillingly commits. Vic is also shown to be a short-tempered man, easily becoming provoked upon watching the foolish actions made by other characters, most notably his younger brother Lance, and is more rational than his easy-going, cheerful yet equally short-tempered younger brother. Despite being involved in drug smuggling, Vic has shown a dislike for them, believing they destroy people's lives, and does not willingly use them recreationally. While he can be a closed and cold man to his rivals and enemies, Vic has great care for his friends and family, putting them above all of his needs. After developing romantic feelings toward Louise, Vic starts to look after her and protect her even though they only knew each other briefly. Vic also quickly develops close friendships with people such as Phil Cassidy, Umberto Robina, and Reni, all of whom assist Vic in his battles against Martinez and the Mendez brothers. Whilst reluctant to do so, Vic shows how much he cares for Lance and always assists him when needed, though he frequently becomes annoyed by Lance's reckless and irresponsible behaviour. Vic's care for his brother Pete is also shown, as he joined the army to raise money to pay for Pete's medical bills. Appearance Main article: Clothing in GTA Vice City Stories Vic's appearance in GTA: Vice City Stories, wearing the "Hired Muscle" outfit. In GTA: Vice City Stories, circa 1984, Vic is of a muscular build and has a dark skin tone. He has brown eyes and a shaved head, although game artwork shows him with short black hair. Vic also has a small degree of facial hair and chest hair, which can be seen with certain outfits. Vic appears to be quite short, as during the mission The Bum Deal one of the bikers seems to refer to Vic as "the little one". He is also noticeably shorter than his brother Lance, as seen in the opening cutscene for Jive Drive. As Vice City Stories allows the player to change clothes, Vic can wear up to 14 different outfits, ranging from casuals to gang-affiliated to luxury suits. Vic's regular outfit is a blue, collared t-shirt, stone-washed jeans, a black wristwatch, and white sneakers. As a soldier in the army, Vic sometimes wears military-themed clothing, which consists of a beige t-shirt, camouflage pants, dog tags and black army boots. In GTA: Vice City, circa 1986, Vic has short, receding hair and a thicker moustache than the one he had in GTA: VCS. Vic also wears an orange Hawaiian shirt, along with beige pants and white sneakers. During Vice City Stories, Victor speaks with no accent. In Vice City, however, Vic has a very thick Latin American accent. Skills Being a playable character, Vic's actions are made by the player. Similar to both past and future protagonists, Victor is capable with any type of weapon he wields, such as firearms, explosives, and melee weapons. He is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat as he's able to grab opponents, attack them repeatedly or throw them far away and even able to snap necks. All this probably due of his training in the army. Victor can also drive different types of vehicles, ranging from motorcycles and four-wheeled cars to boats, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircrafts. Vehicles Vic's Stinger next to a female pedestrian. Being the main playable character of Vice City Stories, Vic can drive every vehicle found in the game. However, there are a few vehicles that truly belong to him throughout the game's storyline. * Stinger: a sports car. Victor is given a Stinger by Jerry Martinez through Phil Cassidy during "Conduct Unbecoming". The Stinger is red in color. The Stinger was destroyed during "Jive Drive" by the Cholos. * Streetfighter: a motorcycle. Victor briefly used the Streetfighter during his missions from Jerry Martinez, the motorcycle's owner. This Streetfighter is a military version with an olive green paintjob. * Infernus: a highly expensive sports car. Victor owns a randomly coloured Infernus, which appears outside Lance's in Blitzkrieg. The glitch occurs if Vic performs and air punch and the player switches to the AK-47 or any other two-handed weapon. Vic will tilt to the left for a few seconds before transforming into a floating "box". He was also the first character that Tommy interacted with in the storyline. * Victor's name was never mentioned at all during the storyline of GTA Vice City. * Victor is the first protagonist to be killed canonically onscreen. He is followed by Johnny Klebitz, the protagonist of The Lost and Damned who was killed in Grand Theft Auto V by Trevor Philips, who is also one of the game's three protagonists. * When Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was released, it was believed by some that the Vance brother killed at the botched drug deal was Victor and Lance's unseen brother Pete. However, Rockstar later confirmed that it was Victor who was killed.[1] [2] * Victor's death is similar to that of Johnny Klebitz in several ways: * They both died in front of another protagonist (although Trevor killed Johnny himself, while Tommy only witnessed Vic being gunned down before escaping). * They both died in a protagonist's opening scene. * Both of their deaths involved drugs in some way (Victor was killed at a drug deal and Johnny was a drug addict). * In addition, both Victor and Johnny share the distinction of being romantically involved with their respective tritagonists (Louise Cassidy-Williams and Ashley Butler), and having their respective deuteragonists (Jim Fitzgerald and Lance Vance) killed by another protagonist (Niko Bellic and Tommy Vercetti, respectively). * In the credits of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Victor is credited as "Supplier." * There's a graffiti easter egg in Grand Theft Auto IV which reaffirms Victor's death. It also suggests that all of the other 3D Universe protagonists are deceased as well. Rockstar Games later confirmed that the graffiti is simply "a little joke to our fans", and references the fact that none of the 3D Universe protagonists will appear again. * Going by the release date of the games, Victor is the last protagonist of the 3D Universe. Chronologically, he is the first protagonist.
