Who is charged for Dragon Cash? How much is it?
All students (whether they live on or off campus) taking at least 12 credit hours (at least 7 hours of them on campus) will be assessed a $225 Dragon Cash fee. Remote courses and hybrid courses are are considered on-campus courses and will qualify a student for the Campus Dining Fee.
Where can a student use Dragon Cash or Dining Dollars on campus?
Commons on the Green, the Den by Denny's, C-Store, Moe's, and Slice of Life in McMahon Hall, Starbucks in HSC, and at Full Moon, Panera, and Mein Bowl in the Hill Student Center!
How do students get to, from, and around campus?
Options for getting to, from, and around include walking, bicycling, scooters, bus, on-demand rides, and driving a personal vehicle. Walking is the most frequent way to get around. If you will be driving, you will need to get a UAB parking permit or use the on-street parking.

Where can a student use BlazerBucks?

Describe the Bucks for Books program.
The Bucks for Books program allows students who have between $50-$1500 of leftover financial aid to get the money before classes begin in order to pay for books or any other needs. Otherwise, they would get the refund money a week or two after classes begin. This is no longer an opt-in program. If the student has an excess of aid (expecting a refund) then a list of all eligible students is sent to the bookstore the Wednesday before classes start. The student simply uses their B# at checkout

What does GI BILL POST 9/11 not cover?
The GI Bill pays tuition and fees related to classes (online fees, lab fees, etc.) directly to the school. Parking pass, housing, and dining fees are not covered.
Is there a kitchen in either Freshmen residence hall?
There are no full kitchens in either of our Freshmen residence halls. Gold and McMahon halls have a small kitchenette area for both students to use. Blazer has a large kitchenette area for all four or six person(s) in the suite to use.

A: 16th Street Deck and lot across 17th street south (resident- best if living in Blazer, Camp, Gold, Mcmahon) B: 12th Street Deck (commuter, most expensive, closest to center of campus) C: Express Lot 1, westernmost perimeter lot (commuter, least expensive, use Blazer Express to interior of campus) D & E: Northern perimeter lots (commuter, medium price, better for classes north of University, access to Nursing, Campbell, Business via Blazer Express) F: Southwest perimeter lots (commuter, medium price, closest to EEC and arts side of campus, access to Chemistry, Nursing, Public Health via Blazer Express) G: Southeast perimeter lots (commuter, medium price, better for Nursing, Public Health, School of Health Professions) H: Lots by Blount and Rast (resident- best if living in Blount and Rast) -Note: ZONE 7 will change to Zone 7 in Fall 2022 to make all student lots begin with a letter. Apply online at www.uab.edu/transportation. A pass will be mailed to all students (whether they live on or off campus). Permit fees are applied to their student account at the beginning of the semester. April 1: Summer 2022 Parking Passes Available, December 1: Spring 2023 Parking Passes Available, June 1: Fall 2022-Spring 2023

When is the last day to request a change or swap in the housing assignments?
July 29, 2022: After assignments are sent in June, the link will be available in MyHousing, where students may request a change. Requests will be granted based on space availability.
When is the cancellation deadline for Freshmen?
June 1, 2022: Cancellation deadline to receive $250.00 prepayment back. The request must be submitted through MyHousing. Cancellations are accepted after this deadline; however, the $250.00 payment is forfeited, and an additional cancellation penalty may be assessed.
When do first-time Freshmen who applied on March 1st have the ability to select their room from Blazer, Gold, or McMahon?
June 13th- 17th 2022: On June 11th, they will receive an email with instructions for log in time. They can log in at any time between their log-in time and the deadline to select a room. They will be allowed to pull in 1 roommate if: that person has submitted a housing application, AND they have a valid roommate group (indicates a mutual request)
When is the Roommate Request deadline?
June 3, 2022 at 5 pm: all roommate groups will be complete, there will be no changes. If they are not assigned a group then they will be assigned ones based on their MyHousing answers.
What are some things NOT allowed in residence halls?
Large live plants and vegetation, open flame decorations (candles, incense, etc. ), toasters, George Foreman grills, and halogen and medusa lamps
Does a student have to purchase BlazerBucks?
No, BlazerBucks are entirely optional.
Do students receive a paper bill for their first semester's tuition charges?
No, all bills (every semester) will ONLY go to the BlazerNET account. (This is important for students AND parents to know so that the student's classes don't get dropped because they are not checking BlazerNET and parents don't get late fees because the student didn't tell them the due date.)
Does an off-campus student have to purchase a meal plan?
No.
Describe the First Day program
The UAB's Bookstore's First Day program allows students to automatically receive access to digital course materials on the first day of class within Canvas. Charges for the First Day course material are billed directly to your student account, so it's convenient and affordable - with significant savings. Stuents have the ability to opt out of the program if desired by choosing to opt out in "Course Materials" in each Canvas course within the first week of classes.
