IgG
-Abundant in serum and tissue fluid (80% are IgG) -Activates compliment and NK cells -Enhances phagocytosis -Stops toxins -Maternal antibody
IgA
-Dimer (2 chains connected) -10% in serum -Guards the door to your body (abundant in mucus, saliva, tears, milk, etc.) -Protects mucosal surfaces -Second way mom can protect infant (through breastfeeding)
IgM
-Largest immunoglobulin -Pentameter (5 immunoglobulins, 10 arms) -Protects blood (10% are IgM) -Activates compliment -First antibody to be made
IgD
-Very little in serum -Bound to surface of B cells -Involved in antigen recognition and B cell maturation
IgE
-Very little in serum unless you have allergies -Bound to surface of mast cells and basophils -Protects against parasites with inflammation
