the 5 major types of species interactions; science
predation
is when one organism kills and eats another organism. This involves a predator and a prey. A predator is the organism that is eating. The prey is the organism that is eaten.
Parasitism
the relationship between the parasite and the host. This interaction involves parasites. Parasites are organisms that live in or on another organism and feed on it without immediately killing it.
Niche
Can be a range of conditions in which a species can survive
Expotential growth
Growth in which numbers increase by a certain factor in each successive time period
Density
Is the number of individuals per-unit area or volume
Population
Is the set of individuals within a species living in the same place at the same time
Symbosis
Relationship in which 2 species live in close association
Dispersion
Describes the arrangement of its individuals in a space
Carrying capacity
The largest population that environment can support at any given time. Is the population size aware birthrates and death rates are equal.
Reproductive potential
The maximum number of offspring that a given organism can produce
predation competition parasitism mutualism commensalism
There are five major types of species interactions. The five types of species interactions are:
mutualism
a cooperative partnership between 2 species in which BOTH species benefit.
competition
a form of interaction where species can compete without coming into contact with each other. it also occurs when attempt to use the same limited resource.
commensalism
a relationship in which one species is neither helped nor hamed. This is the rarest of all species interactions.
