flummoxed

ethical
(adj.) Having to do with morals, values, right and wrong; in accordance with standards of right conduct; requiring a prescription for purchase. In lecture: when they first start thinking about it, they often think, many men think, well, that's right, that's fair, that's just, that's the ethical imperative. example:taking someone's idea for a comment and acting like you came up with it first isn't ethical either.
Patriarchy
(n) a system of society or government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family and descent is traced through the male line. In lecture:All women are similarly situated in patriarchy, and therefore all women have a kind of intuitive solidarity or sisterhood. example:Many feminists argue that in patriarchies men maintain their power through violence and force.
Gender equality
(n) is the view that both men and women should receive equal treatment and not be discriminated against based on their gender. In lecture : Gender equality is about women, right? I mean, the word gender is about women. Actually, I'm even here speaking as a middle class white man. example:Many people are supportive of gender equality for salaries, but don't want to pay the extra taxes required to finance the necessary legislation.
Oppression
(n) the feeling of being heavily burdened, mentally or physically, by troubles, adverse conditions, anxiety, etc. In lecture: the white woman said, "All women face the same oppression as women. example: The oppression of women is rooted in class society.
privilege
(n)A special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people. In lecture:She said, "That's how privilege works. Privilege is invisible to those who have it. example:education is a right, not a privilege.
egalitarian
(adj) related to the belief in the equality of all people, esp. in political, economic, or social spheres. In lecture:Now, it turns out that the more egalitarian our relationships, the happier both partners are. example:The law was written to impose the egalitarian principle that men and women should be treated as equals.
Solidarity
(n)Unity or agreement of feeling or action, especially among individuals with a common interest; mutual support within a group In lecture: All women are similarly situated in patriarchy, and therefore all women have a kind of intuitive solidarity or sisterhood. example:Since John is an African American, he joined the Black Student Union in college to show solidarity for his race
dualism
(n)seeing mind and body as two different things that interact. In lecture:That is mind-body dualism right there. example:Mind-body dualism, in philosophy, any theory that mind and body are distinct kinds of substances or natures
Race
(n)the fact or condition of belonging to a racial division or group; the qualities . In lecture :To me, race is visible. But to you, race is invisible. You don't see it. example:Discrimination on grounds of race will not be tolerated.
discrimination
Behaving differently, usually unfairly, toward the members of a group. In lecture:we think this is a level playing field, so any policy that tilts it even a little bit, we think, "Oh my God, water's rushing uphill. It's reverse discrimination against us." example:Children of mixed races often face discrimination in our societyIt is illegal to discriminate against someone based on their race, sex, age or sexual orientation.
