Preparing a Resume
Organizational skills
Resumes should always be typed! You should also keep your resume neat, precise, and highlight qualities that meet the organization's needs. Font size should be no smaller than 10 point and a length from 1 to 2 pages.
How to record your references
Always provide a substantial amount of references. Provide names, addresses, and phone numbers. Teachers are good references.
Basic information
Be prepared to give out basic information such as your name, address, phone number, and schools attended.
Use symbols
Include symbols like % $ and #. These symbols will save space which allows you to include more information about yourself.
Things to record in your resume
Make sure to list any previous jobs, awards, and volunteer work you were involved in.
State goals
Many organizations today request that your resume also include a brief statement that indicates your goal to seek employment.
Developing a second resume
Sometimes you will need to develop a second version of your resume to highlight specific qualifications for another particular job.
Submitting the resume
When submitting a resume, always dress as if you are going to be interviewed. You never know when someone may decide to interview you.
Cover letter
Write a cover letter even if it's not required in your resume. Simply introduce yourself and say why you are the best candidate for the job.
Honesty
You should always be honest while filling out your resume.
