Why did it take so long for an active civil rights movement to begin in the LGBT community?
LGBT rights are seen as a sensitive topic. It has the idea of "if we don't talk about it, it won't happen." People see it as a "duh" that African Americans, Latinos, and Natives have rights so why isn't it the same for LGBT community? Social movements were organized after years and years of prosecution from the church and public. There was little attention to it in the 19th century. As social movement and equal rights came into play in the 20th century, is when people finally started to pay attention to them.

I do not think the government should protect these practices if they conflict with the law or lead a bias. It is not right to discriminate or take action against a group because they are "against your beliefs." Religion should not be a scapegoat for just being a piece of crap and prejudiced person. Like with homosexuality, it is not right to discriminate against them just because they found love in a different form than you.
