So a good set of questions to determine whether a project leader has an agile mindset might be:

"In what specific ways and with what practices do you focus on value first and constraints last?" "In what specific ways do you manage teams rather than tasks?" "in what ways and practices do you adapt to change rather than conform to plans?"

The Agile Manifesto

"We are uncovering better ways of developing [products] by doing it and helping others to do it." Through this work we have come to value: -Individuals and interactions over processes and tools -Working software over comprehensive documentation -Customer collaboration over contract negotiation -Responding to change over following a plan "That is while there I value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.'

A traditional project manager focuses on following the plan with minimal changes, whereas an agile leader focuses on adapting successfully to inevitable changes.

-Some team leaders are good team managers, but overly conforming, and others are good at adapting, but poor at self-organizing team leadership. A good Agile leader must be both.

It is difficult to say "this set of project management practices is agile; this other set is not agile."

Agility is a principle about mind set, not practices.

For many managers, the traditional project management iron triangle dominates - scope, schedule, and cost.

The assumption gets made that delivering on scope, schedule, and cost means delivering value.

Too often project managers focus on constraints of time and cost as if value will take care of itself.

Then there are those who focus on scope and detailed requirements, but not the end goal of value.

3 Critical Values for Agile Leaders

• Delivering value over meeting constraints (Value over Constraints) • Leading the team over managing tasks (Team over Tasks) • Adapting to change over conforming to plans (Adapting over Conforming) (Value over Constraints) (Team over Tasks) (Adapting over Conforming)
