Mode:

# that occurs most frequently in a set.

Positive & Negative Number Rules:

(+) + (-) = Subtract #'s; solution = larger # (-) + (-) = Negative # (-) * (-) = Positive # (-) * (+) = Negative # (-) / (-) = Positive # (-) / (+) = Negative #

Fundamental Counting Principle:

(The # of possibilities of an event happening) * (the # of possibilities of another event happening) = total # of possibilities. (Ex: Test choice of 5 questions with 4 answer choices for each question, how many test result possibilities are there? 4*4*4*4*4 = 1024 possible test results.)

Midpoint Equation:

(x1+x2 / 2) , (y1+y2 / 2)

Adding & subtracting fractions requires:

A common denominator. (Ex: 2/3 - 1/5 => 2/3*(5/5) - 1/5*(3/3) => 10/15 - 3/15 = 7/15)

Chord:

A line segment that connects two different points on a circle.

Transversal Line:

To divide fractions:

Convert mixed fractions into single fractions, flip the second fraction, & multiply across.

To multiply fractions:

Convert mixed fractions to single fractions & multiply across. Reduce to lowest term if needed.

To subtract mixed fractions by:

Converting to single fractions.

A probability is found by:

Dividing the # desired outcomes by the # of possible outcomes. (Ex: Probability of picking a blue marble if 3 of the 15 are blue? 3/15 = 1/5; 1 in 5 chance of blue marble.)

Subtraction key words:

How much more, less than, fewer than, exceeds, difference, & decreased.

Inequalities:

Inequalities are solved like linear & algebraic equations, except the sign must be reversed when dividing by a negative #. (Ex: -7x+2<6-5x; Combine like terms: -2x<4; Solve for x: x>-2) (Ex: -4<2x-2<6; Add 2 to each term to isolate x: -2<2x<8; Divide by 2: -1<x<4; Solution set is: [-1,4])

Equals key words:

Is, was, are, amounts to, & were.

The absolute value of a # is:

It's distance from zero, not its value. Absolute value equations will have two answers. (So in [x] = a, "x" will equal "-a" as well as "a.")

Perpendicular Lines:

Lines that intersect or cross to form 90 degree angles.

Parallel Lines:

Lines that will never intersect. Y II X means line Y is parallel to line X.

Obtuse Angle:

Measures greater than 90 degrees.
