Describe empirical outcomes
Empirical outcomes describe "What difference have you made?" Clinical outcomes related to patients and consumers, nursing, the nursing workforce, and the organization is compared to benchmarks. This is our report card of how we demonstrate excellence. Examples include fall, CAUTI, CLABSI, and Pressure ulcer prevalence rates, Patient and RN satisfaction rates, and staffing decisions.

Describe exemplary professional practice
Exemplary Professional Practice entails a comprehensive understanding of the role of nursing and how it applies to patients, families, communities and the interdisciplinary team. It concerns how new knowledge and evidence are applied and what strong professional practice can achieve.
Describe structural empowerment
Structural Empowerment means that solid structural processes are in place to provide an environment where professional practice flourishes and the mission, vision, and values of the organization come to life to achieve the outcomes that are important for the organization. There are strong relationships and partnerships among the organization and the community to improve patient outcomes and the health of the community it serves. The organization's strategic plan, structure, systems, policies and programs support staff to best accomplish organizational goals and achieve outcomes.
What is the Magnet Recognition Program?
The Magnet Recognition Program® recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. It is the ultimate credential for high quality nursing. It was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Magnet is the leading source of successful nursing practice and strategies worldwide. Magnet requires organizations to develop, disseminate and enculturate evidence-based criteria that result in a positive work environment. It is not a prize or an award. It is a credential of organizational recognition that recognizes nursing excellence
Describe transformational leadership.
The transformational leader requires vision, influence and clinical knowledge to lead people where they need to go to meet the needs of the future. Transformation may create turbulence and atypical solutions. The leader must enlighten the organization as to why change is necessary, listen, challenge, influence and affirm as we make our way into the future. The intent is to no longer solve problems, fix broken systems and empower staff, but to actually transform the organization to meet future needs, birth new ideas and innovations.
Describe new knowledge, innovations, and improvements
This component includes new models of care, application of existing evidence, new evidence, and the visible contributions of the science of nursing. The other components are the building blocks to support this component as we have an ethical and professional responsibility to contribute to the development of the profession, patient care and the organization.
