Treaty of Paris (French and Indian War)

1763: Ended the French and Indian War.

The Proclamation Line of 1763

1763: Prevented conflict conflict with the Native Americans by stopping the colonist from moving westward without permission.

Committees of Correspondence

1764: This group dealt with the issues colonist had with the British.

Stamp Act

1765: Britain placed taxes on all the stamps and legal documents.

Quartering Act

1765: Required the colonist to provide barrack and supplies to British troops.

Sugar Act

1765: Taxes were placed on sugar and rum.

Declaratory Act

1766: stated that Parliament had the right to tax and make decisions for the colonists in all cases.

Townshend Act

1767: legalize the use of the writs of assistance to assist customer officers in arresting smugglers.

Tea Act

1773: Gave British East India Company the right to ship tea to the colonies with out paying most of the taxes.

1st Continental Congress

1774: Delegates sent a document to the King demanding the right of the colonist to be restored.

Coercive Acts/ Intolerable Acts

1774: Restricted the colonist civil rights including the right to trial by jury.

Battle of Bunker Hill

1775: The British defeated the colonist but the British experience major casualties.

Battle of Saratoga

1777: this battle encourage the French to help the American colonist.

Battle of Yorktown

1781: The Final battle of the American Revolutionary War.

Boston tea party

December 1773: A group of angry colonists dressed as Native Americans dumped 342 boxes of tea into the Boston Harbor.

January 1776: It inspired many colonist; the pamphlet called for a complete independence from Great Britain.

Declaration of independence

July 4, 1776: The declaration was signed which gave colonist complete freedom.

Boston massacre

March 5, 1770: When British soldiers fired into a crowd killing five.

May 1775: The Congress appointed a committee to write the Declaration of Independence.
