1. The lymphatic system is closely connected with what other body system?

cardiovascular systems

9. The right lymphatic duct drains into the ________.

right subclavian vein

7. Describe the structure of lymph vessels.

-lymph vessels have valves to assure the one-way flow of lymph -all lymph vessels merge in either the thoracic duct or the right lymphatic duct. . -the ducts drain into the right and left subclavian vein

16. Label the splenic artery, vein and hepatic portal vein.

1. splenic artery 2. splenic vein 3. hepatic artery

3. What are three functions of the lymphatic system?

1. takes up excess fluid 2. absorb fats that can't be absorbed through digestion and transport them to the bloodstream. 3. helps with immunity

After blood exits the spleen via the splenic vein, where does it travel?

After blood leaves the spleen through the splenic vein, it flows into the hepatic portal vein which transports it to the liver where it is detoxified before returning to general circulation

4. What is lymph?

Excess tissue fluid entering the lymphatic capillaries from the interstitial fluid not returned by the cardiovascular system.

8. Label the thoracic duct and the right lymphatic duct.

Lymph vessell lymph node Thoracic duct Subclavian vein L Right Lymphatic Duct

What is the axilla region?

armpit

Where are Lymph vessels found?

extend through most sections of the body.

What is the function of the spleen?

filter blood and help fight infections

Describe the structure of a lymph node.

is encapsulate in a fibrous connective tissue with many incoming (afferent) and fewer outgoing (efferent) lymphatic vessels. the interior of the node is divided into open spaces called nodules contain lymphocytes and macrophages

5. Describe the flow of lymph.

lymph flows in a one-way direction from the lymphatic capillaries through the lymphatic vessels and eventually empties into venous blood of the cardiovascular system.

Locate the tonsils and describe their function.

on the the lateral posterior portions of the throat -they gather and destroy pathogens that have been inhaled or ingested -there are grooves along the surface called crypts that trap bacteria

2. What are lymphatic vessels?

part of the lymphatic system that takes up excess tissue fluid and returns it to the bloodstream.

Where does the thoracic duct drain fluid from?

the left upper and lower limbs, lower trunk, and the left side of the upper trunk, neck and head.

17. Locate the thymus and describe its function.

thymus is on the anterior portion of the heart -secretes thymosin and thymopoietin hormones which allow t-lymphocytes to mature and function in the immune system
