Virginia declaration of rights
drafted in 1776 to proclaim the inherent rights of men, including the right to reform or abolish "inadequate" government.

Washington's farewell address
Letter written by george washington near the end of his second term stating his leave. (published in 1796; also included a warning of long term alliances with other nations.

Lists specific prohibitions on governmental power.

advocating independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen Colonies.
Kentucky and Virginia's resolutions
Argued that the federal government had no authority to exercise power not specifically delegated to it in the Constitution.
