Parasympathetic Nervous System (PSNS)

Main function is to control the bodies response which at rest (Rest and recovery role) which promotes functions associated with digestion, defecation, and urine production. The cell bodies of the neurons are located in the cranial nerve nuclei, and the sacral portion of the spinal cord. Neurotransmitter is acetylcholine.

Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS)

Main function is to control the body's response during a perceived threat (fight or flight). The cell bodies of the neurons are located in the lumbar and thoracic regions of the spinal cord. Neurotransmitters are norephinehrine, epinephrine, and acetylcholine.
