Ages and stages

emergent curriculum

a realistic assessment of one's worth that results in feelings of confidence and satisfaction

stage theorist

a theorist who believes that children develop according to specific, sequential stages of development

incongruence

a type of mixed message that causes confusion. For example, a person's body language might convey anger while the words contradict the emotion.

holism

a view that considers the whole as more important than an analysis of the parts. A holistic view of the child, for example, integrates the mind, body, feelings, and personal context into an inseparable unit.
