What is tolerance according to pluralists?

Tolerance can create a climate of restraint but not one of understanding, it is far too fragile a foundation for a society. In a society guided by pluralistic beliefs people appreciate differences because everyone is enriched by a diverse society. Individuals have the right to maintain and be proud of their racial, cultural, ethnic, or religious heritage.
