Summary of Stave 3 (part one)

Scrooge wakes up when the bell strikes one, and is immediately prepared for the second ghost's arrival. He sees a light from a room and hears a strange voice telling him to enter. It is the Ghost of Christmas Present. He told Scrooge to touch his robe. Once Scrooge did so, they both transported to the streets of Christmas morning. The Ghost of Christmas Present transports Scrooge to the house of Bob Cratchit. He came in with his crippled son, Tiny Tim from Church. The ghost told Scrooge that Tiny Tim would die if the future didn't change. Mrs. Cratchit curses off about Scrooge, but her husband Bob stops her and reminds her that it's Christmas. Everyone said a prayer for him.

Summary of Stave 5

Scrooge woke up in his bedroom and repeat his vows to live from the lessons of the 3 spirits/ghosts. He ran around his hour and then outside, where the church bells rang. A boy told him that it's Christmas Day, and Scrooge realized that the ghosts visited him all in one night. Scrooge bought a prize turkey and sent it to Bob's house. Scrooge walked around the town with a smile and gave a huge deal of money to the man who asked for a charitable donation. Scrooge visited Fred's house and had a great time at the party. The next morning, Scrooge got to work early. Bob came in late, Scrooge pretended to reprimand him, and he gave Bob a raise. Scrooge continued his kind ways and became a second father to Tiny Tim who didn't die. He never saw the ghosts again, but kept the spirit of Christmas alive.

Summary of Stave 3 (part two)

The Ghost of Christmas Present brought Scrooge to a number of other happy Christmas dinners in the city like the celebration in the minor's house, lighthouse, and on a ship. Scrooge is then taken to his nephew Fred's house. Fred tells his pretty wife and his sisters he feels sorry for Scrooge because of his misery, hateful nature deprives him of his pleasure in life. Scrooge's nieve plays a tune on the harp and it softened Scrooge's heart. Scrooge even joined in for some of their games, though the people aren't aware of his ghostly presence. The Ghost pulled Scrooge away from games to other different happy scenes. As they travel, the Ghost ages and he says that he will die at midnight. A boy and girl crawl out of his robes. The Ghost told Scrooge to beware of the boy and girl. The bell struck 12 and the ghost of Christmas Present disappeared.

Summary of Stave 4

The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come approached Scrooge in its black garment. They instantly appeared in the city and listen in on a businessman who casually discusses someone's death. Scrooge wonders why the ghost is showing him these conversations and what bearing they have on his future self. They travel through the poor, run down part of town. In a shop, several people divvy up some possessions they've plundered from a man who has recently died. The scene changes and Scrooge is at the bed of the corpse. Scrooge cannot bring himself to see the dead man's face. Scrooge asked the ghost to show him someone who was emotionally affected by the man's death. They transport to a house of a young couple who is rejoicing because they aren't ruined from debt, Bib and his family mourn for Tim's death. Scrooge asked who the dead man was and the ghost brings him to his office. The Ghost points Scrooge toward a graveyard and to a specific grave. Scrooge sees his name on the tombstone and realized that he was the dead man. Scrooge vows to honor Christmas in his heart and live by the lessons of the past, present, and future. The Ghost shrinks and collapses into a bedpost.
