Bears at raspberry time
The man writes about bears for a living. He fears for the bears and that the "idiotic" neighbors will shoot them as prizes. He says that bears are great to write about.

The subject of this poem is a white woman, the speaker suggests says that black women should read and publish her poetry despite her fears, the speakers suggestion would help her overcome her fear.

This poem is about this woman who gets confronted by these people in a car waiting to discuss fear with her. Because she is living in fear, this (for some odd reason) absolutely terrifies her. She declines their offer, they give her their card and move on.
