Irony of who values life more

Creature says, "Life, although it may only be an accumulation of anguish, is dear to me, and I will defend it." Yet, Victor is suicidal, depressed, and vengeful even though he is born in a wealthy, educated family.

"His countenance bespoke bitter anguish, combined with disdain and malignity, while its unearthly ugliness rendered it almost too horrible for human eyes..." (in plain English)

His face and expression was full of bitterness, contempt, and evil, while he was so ugly he was hard to look at.

Victor's first words (in plain English)

How dare you approach me? Aren't you scared of me you miserable beast? Leave, no stay, so I can kill you to restore those you have killed.

This creates the perfect mood for Victor to meet the creature.

In the wilderness, alone, isolated, desolate, jutting rocks, steep mountains, icy conditions, windy, harsh weather, no shelter.

Creature shows compassion by telling Victor that...

Victor is human and will be affected by the cold, and they should go to a better location, in the hut on the mountain. (The creature has greater endurance than Victor and the creature would win if it they were to get into a physical confrontation.)

The beast's promise

You are my creator, yet you want to kill me? Treat me right and I will treat you right. If you try to kill me, I will kill everyone you love.
