Define Greenhouse Effect

A process by which certain gases in Earth's atmosphere trap energy from the sun that has been reflected off Earth's surface; this process warms the Earth's surface.

What are some greenhouse gases, and where do they come from?

CO2 or Carbon Dioxide which comes from the combustion of any material and when organic matter exhale. Another greenhouse gas is CH4 or Methane which comes from cattle burping, releasing feces, decomposition in landfills, and coal mining.

List Greenhouse gases and examples.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) , Methane (CH4), Water Vapor (H2O) ,Nitrous Oxide (N2O), Ozone (o3), and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Some examples are the burning of fossil fuels, decaying in landfills, old spray cans, and old refrigerators.

What are fossil fuels? List the 3 types. What do fossil fuels have to do with Global warming?

Fossil fuels are substances made from the compressed fossils of dead plants animals and materials in the soil. The 3 main types of fossil fuels are coal, natural gas, and oil or petroleum. Fossil fuels contribute to global warming by releasing CO2 and other greenhouse gases when they are burned along wit the energy released.

Define Global Warming

Global Warming refers to the increase in temperatures around the world that has been noticed over the last 50 years.

Are the amounts of greenhouse gases changing, and how are they connected to the human population, agriculture, or industry?

Greenhouse gases are changing and humans cause it when we mine for coal, garbage decaying in landfills, and when livestock burp or poop.

What strategies can humans take for dealing with global climate change?

Humans can use fewer cars, buy energy efficient products, buy solar panels, and buy less processed food.

What evidence links global temperatures and atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations?

In the past, whenever the CO2 concentrations rise the temperature rises with it.

Define Climate change

Significant long-term change in expected climate patterns.

What are some consequences (bad things) that will happen as a result of a change in climate? Know at least 5 examples.

Some consequences of climate change are 1) extinction of arctic species 2) loss of culture in arctic and sea- level areas 3) rising sea levels 4) loss of land 5) more extream storms

Define Pollution

The release of toxic matter or gas onto an area.

Are we currently experiencing an acceleration of the greenhouse effect? What evidence is there that increased greenhouse gases will impact the earth's temperature?

We are experiencing an acceleration in the greenhouse effect. Some evidence toward this is rapid changes in weather patterns, faster melting of glaciers, and elivation in both water and surface tempurtures.

How have humans influenced the global carbon cycle?

We have added more carbon than the cycle can handle

Do we need the greenhouse effect?

We need the greenhouse effect very much because without it our Earth would be a frozen wasteland like Pluto.

What is the greenhouse effect?

When some heat from the sun is trapped on Earth and inside the atmosphere
