MCO 1400.32 Promotion to NCO

Marine must provide potential, motivation, maturity and satisfactory efforts for duties. Promo to Cpl - 8 Months TIG 12 months TIS Eligible LCPL can be promoted if they meet requirements and are recommended by commander. Promo to SGT - 12 months TIG 24 Months TIS Same promo system as cpl

Proficiency Marks

Indicates how well a Marine does their duty Reflects their technical skills and knowledge Consider when a marine fills a billet inconsistent with their grade

Meritorious promotion

Intended to promote marines superior to their peers. TIG can be waved TIS compliance is mandatory Commanders look at: PME requirements in grade Performance in duties

Promotion System

Process to select promoting marines Objectives: Maintain strength in grade in each MOS Marines all receive equitable opportunity to be promoted Best/ most fully qualified marines get promoted

Record a marines performance Determines eligability for reenlistment/specisl duty Determined dischsrge characterization Determines composite scores for promotion PVT-CPL

Cutting Scores / Composite Scores

Used: Rifle scores, fitness scores, proficiency/Conduct Marks, TIS/TIG, Bonuses: special duty, self education, command recruitment

promotion restriction

Within 3 months of NJP, Failed testing, during Eval process of appearance or body composition
