Logo Design - Logo Styles
Negative Space
A design that uses the background of an image to create another image. Using the space inside an image is a clever way to communicate multiple ideas.
Wordmark (logotype)
A font-based logo that focuses on a business' name alone.
Combination Mark
A logo comprised of a combined wordmark or lettermark and a pictorial mark, abstract mark, or mascot.
Flat Design
A minimalist (basic) style with graphics in two dimensions, without unnecessary details. Logos of this style may use color, but there are no shadows or gradients.
Abstract logo mark
A specific type of pictorial mark that uses a graphic to represent the company or business. The graphic usually does not directly relate to the business or its products.
Lettermark
A typography-based logo that's comprised of a few letters, usually a company's initials.
Gradient
Also known as color transitions. Creates a gradual blending from one color to another color. Adds depth and dimension to an otherwise flat graphic.
Emblem
Consists of logotype inside a symbol or an icon; think badges, seals, crests, and banners.
Framed Text
Logos that feature logo type inside a geometric shaped frame.
Mascots
Logos that involve an illustrated character.
Letterforms (Bonus)
Minimalistic versions of monogram logos that contain one letter.
Line Art
Simple logo designs created with abstract line art.
Pictorial Mark
Sometimes called brand mark or logo symbol, this style is an icon—or graphic-based logo.
