Use of Euphemism
A mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing. Example: The Giver, being killed = released
Pathos
An appeal to emotion. It is a means of convincing the audience by creating an emotional response. Example: Commercial with sad music and donating to dogs.
Ethos
An appeal to ethics. It is a means of convincing the audience of the character or credibility of the product/spokesperson/etc. Example: 4 out of 5 dentist recommend Listerine mouthwash
Logos
An appeal to logic. It is a means of convincing the audience through rational thought and reason.
Propaganda
Citizens are told lies in order to control them. Information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, is used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.
Use of Scapegoat
One who is claimed to be the blame for events and situations despite being innocent. Blaming someone for something they did not do.
