Marine Science- Chapter 3 lesson 2- Physical and Chemical Properties of Seawater
1. What are sources of dissolved substances in seawater?
The source of many of the dissolved substances in the ocean is the Earth's crust. Elements in the Earth's crust that can easily dissolve in rain and river water are carried to the ocean by rivers and runoff.
3. LIST three ways in which gases can enter the ocean?
1. when marine organisms respire and produce carbon dioxide 2.Directly between atmosphere and the ocean 3.When photosynthetic marine organisms produce oxygen
1. RECALL how deep into the ocean can light penetrate in clear water
In clear ocean water, the blue light can penetrate to a depth of 1,00 meters. after that point, all other colors of the spectrum that are visible are absorbed and there is nothing but darkness.
2. IDENTIFY What are the two most common ions found in seawater?
The two most common ions that are found in ocean waters are Sodium and Chloride.
2. How does salinity affect the density of seawater?
When you increase the salinity the density of the sea water also increases.
