Myology 3
Sartorius
2 straplike parts that lie on the cranial and crainomedial surfaces of thigh, on/near ilium, inserts on patella along with tendon of quadriceprs and caudal part on cranial border of tibia
Semimembranosus*
between the biceps femoris laterally and the gracilis and adductor muscles, originates at ischiatic tuberosity, inserts at femur and tibia, bigger
vastus intermedius
caudal to rectus femoris, originates on proximal femur, inserts at tibial tuberosity
Fascia lata
connective tissue covering, goes from femur to knee, lateral aspect
Media/middle gluteal
large egg shaped muscle, lies cranial to superficial gluteal and caudal tensor fascia latae, lateral muscle of hip, originates on hip, insert on femur
Gracilis
large, wide, flat muscle, covers caudomedial surface of medial thigh, goes from pelvic symphysis to cranial border of tibia, bear groin
vastus lateralis
lateral to rectus femoris, originates on proximal femur, inserts at tibial tuberosity
Biceps femoris*
longest, widest muscle of thigh, covers entire caudolateral aspect of leg, originates at ischiatic tubersity of the pelvis, inserts at patella, proximal tibia, and tuber calcanei
vastus medialis
medial to rectus femoris, originates on proximal femur, inserts at tibial tuberosity
rectus femoris
most cranial head of quadriceps, originates on ilium, inserts on tibial tuberosity
cranial tibial
most cranial muscle of thigh, near tarsal joint, starts at lateral aspect of cranial tibial border, ends at proximal metatarsus
Gastrocnemius
most superficial caudal muscle, calf muscle, starts at proximal femur, ends at tarsus
quadraceps femoris*
rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius
Superficial gluteal
small triangular muscle lies over caudal part of middle gluteal muscle, extends laterly from sacrum and caudal vertebrae to femur, lateral muscle of hip
Long digital extensor
spindle shaped muscle, lies lateral to cranial tibial muscle and partly covered by it, tendons go to phalanges, starts at proximal femur, ends at extensor processes of distal phalanges
Semitendinosus
straplike muscle, lies medial to biceps femoris ad lateral to emimembranosus, starts at pelvis, ends at tibia, more behind knee
tensor fasciae latae
triangle shaped muscle, more cranial superficial portion over quadriceps and inserts with biceps femoris on lateral femoral fascia, deeper portion is inserted on lateral femoral fascia and is deep to biceps femoris
