Examples of PAN?

-Bluetooth Headphones -Smart watch/ Fitness monitor

Difference between MAN and WAN?

MAN covers a certain distance WAN covers the globe

Examples of MAN?

-Communication for military -Networking between banks in a city -used in colleges

Examples of a LAN

-Connecting your laptop to the same network as your mobile device.

What type of connections do LAN carry?

-Ethernet -802.11 Wireless

Examples of a WAN?

-Internet -A network of bank cash dispensers -School network

LAN (Local Area Network)

A connection of two or more computers in close proximity.

Mesh Topology

A network setup where each computer and network device is interconnected with one another, allowing for most transmissions to be distributed even if one of the connections go down.

MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)

A network that is larger than a LAN, typically connecting clients and servers from multiple buildings, but within a limited geographic area. For example, could connect multiple city government buildings around a city's center.

WAN (Wide Area Network)

A network that spans a long distance and connects two or more LANs.

PAN (Personal Area Network)

A small network consisting of personal devices at close range; the devices can include cell phones, PDAs, and notebook computers.

Hybrid Topology

Any topology that exhibits the characteristics of more than one standard network topology.

Network Topologies

Bus and Tree; Ring; Star; mesh

Bus Topology

In the bus network topology, every node is connected in series along a linear path. This arrangement is found today primarily in cable broadband distribution networks.

Star Topology

In this configuration, every node connects to a central network device, like a hub, switch, or computer. The central network device acts as a server and the peripheral devices act as clients.

Tree Topology

a tree network is a combination of two or more star networks connected together. Each star network is a local area network (LAN) in which there is a central computer or server to which all the workstation nodes are directly linked. The central computers of the star networks are connected to a main cable called the bus. Thus, a tree network is a bus network of star networks.

Ring Topology

is a network configuration in which device connections create a circular data path. Each networked device is connected to two others, like points on a circle.

WMN(Wireless Mesh Network)

• All devices connect together • A mesh "cloud" • Self form - Connects to each other automatically • Self heal - Reacts automatically to changes • Many different network technologies • 802.11, Zigbee, Z-Wave, etc.
