Cleanse cannula before removing gloves. Throw it away if it is the disposable type. Replace the cannula and lock it in place. Cleanse around stoma and under tube faceplate with sterile cotton ball in hydrogen peroxide. Rinse the area with cotton balls dipped in normal saline. Dry the area with dry gauze pad. Change tracheostomy tape if necessary. Place sterile dressing under faceplate. Reattach oxygen delivery system. (pg. 1450).
